Yeah so I got into an accident, because im a retarded 16 year old that was driving two fast. I was gettin' it around a corner, hit a pothole, spun, and smashed into a parked car. I got a ticket for it. (in OHIO)

Failure to Control ORC 4511.202

My question to cops, lawyers, or whoever might have been in this situation is:
Besides court fines, what penalties will I endure?
Will I lose my license for 90 days or what?

I called the court and they said its up to the judge, but I want to know your best guess.

Thanks,
Oz

depends on the traffic laws in your region, but here (CA) you get a fine, and 2 points on your driving record. 3 points in a certain time frame (1 year?) results in a suspension.

Also, plan on your insurance going up for a few years.  I know in CA a reckless driving stays on your record for 10 years now

edit:  Because I have time to kill today and am feeling helpful, here is a link: http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/4511.20

Turned mine into insurance, I actually hit two parked cars. Their damage was just a scrape on one and a scrape on the other but mine is screwwwwed.

they were parked beside each other.

Try to plea with the district attorney. I think if you can get a meeting with one of them, and give them enough reasons to not use the full extent of the law on you. (Example: You don't have much money, your family needs you to be able to drive for work, you have a Grandmother who you drive around town to get her groceries ) The District Attorney is the one to give his/her recommendation to the Judge, and the Judge, knowing you spoke with the D.A, usually listens to them.

If you will be in court, then I recommend dressing very nice for them, and treat the Judge with the highest respect. Also when they ask if there is anything you would like to say, then you should do your apology speech and again, tell them the reasons why you ask for a lesser charge/sentence.

edit: btw, thats how it worked for me in Wisconsin, I don't know about Ohio...

At the time I did the D.A thing yes. But it was for something worse then a traffic accident. But I'm SURE you can still meet with the D.A who is handling your case and discuss it.

Again edit: But they are always busy, and probably don't like to be bothered, so make sure you call their secretary now, and ask if you can meet with them anytime (at their convenience) before the court date.

Just show up on your court date, act like a nice kid.  The judge will probably let you off with just points and damages.  You can also chat with a lawyer quick to make sure, but don't bring him along...it makes you already look guilty for such a minor charge and judges usually hate wasting time.

Remember:  You're young, you're sorry, you did a dumb thing, you know what you did was wrong, and you won't do it again.

Your court appearance should take 2 minutes.

And don't bother the DA, ffs.

Well buddy, If I'm reading this traffic law site, you have committed a minor misdemeanor. According to another website, Ohio (Thats where you live right?) has a penalty for minor misdemeanors of no prison time and up to a fine of $150 dollars.

Also, remember that you are NOT on the judge's list of "Big Fish to Fry." SO if you don't piss him off, he should go lightly on you as long as your courteous.

So let me get this straight? In the USA you have to be 21 to drink but you can learn to drive at 15? Thats retarded.

I am not an expert on the subject, but I would recommend taking a DUI class. In GA, you can take the class even if you have not been pulled over for a DUI. The result is a reduction in points that will help with your insurance. It is a small fee for the class that is worth it for the help on your insurance.

P.S. Get better tires or slow down.

I have some work experience in this area.

Very slim chance you'll lose your license over this UNLESS it's deemed your speed was consideerably over the limit.

Preare to pay out your --- for car insurance for the next  3-4 years.

watch out for pot holes and black ice (did mine on black ice, went sideways and pushed a car lightly into another, no parking brake on on the first was on the second, no damage to any car, i literally could have gotten out of my car and walked faster then it was sliding, but there was ice so i didn't)

as for the ticket, well, be remorseful and the judge should be nice unless they have a thing against teenage drivers, you just gotta play your hand the same and hope the judge lotto is nice to you.

Try doing some sort of defensive driving course before you go to court, and then make mention of it while youre there.
