Actually, Oxygen is often present as Free Radicals which are highly oxidising and believed to be a major cause of ageing. But it's completely redundant as it is this fact that it is able to exist as free radicals that allows it to play such a large part in our metabolism. Plus if oxygen destroys our body then we wouldn't grow from a baby. A lot of your body is formed from oxygen so its more the opposite, one of the major building blocks of the body.
