GOP candidates to face off tonight
Is anyone planning to watch? Too bad no Fred Thompson. I still have yet to see a real conservative leader among the Republicans. Who knows, maybe someone will surprise me.
Coverage on MSNBC from 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time.

I imagined that they would hold the Republican debate either at the Ronald Reagan Museum or at some Southern university to try and establish the idea that conservatism still abounds in the Republican candidates. It'll be interesting to hear Guiliani talk about issues besides national security; personally, I'm hoping he gets nailed on an abortion question or something like that.

Ron Paul, Tom Tancredo, and Mike Huckabee strike me as the best of the group.  Unfortunately, they don't have anywhere near the funds necessary to win the primaries yet, but here's to hoping that their campaigns improve in the coming months.

Mitt Romney is the most conservative guy I've seen among the Reps.  I really like his approach from what he said on Jay Leno last night.

I'll listen on the way home, but I'm annoyed that all this bs is starting so early.
Blah blah blah, same old shit.

I'll be keen to hear if there are any coherent independents, or is this for republicans only?

UGADawgs all of them have very wishy washy immigration policies also . Fred Thompson is the only person I have heard supporting the idea of smaller (Federal) government. On issues like gay rights/civil unions and gun control he would like to see the power go to the state. (For the record he is not against Gay rights, he just believes in "human rights" as a whole.)

Could be worse though. I can't see how Dems could identify with their candidates considering they all supported the war, voted for the Patriot Act, and support capital punishment... err oh yea they also opposed gay marriage.
If I'm wrong correct me.

PS: Fred burries them(REP) all in the Blogosphere polls http://www.gopstrawpolls.com/pollresult … amp;refer=

hopefully John Mccain isn't going anywhere. That guy was captured in Vietnam, and tortured for six fucking years by communists. If you have that kind of history, I feel sorry, but I don't feel trust.

I hate to break it to you, but Romney is basically faking it.  He was one of the most liberal Republicans back when he first ran for Senator of Massachusetts in 1994.

"I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country. I have since the time that my mom took that position when she ran in 1970 as a US Senate candidate. I believe that since Roe v. Wade has been the law for 20 years we should sustain it and support it." Boston Globe, Oct. 26, 1994

Don't get me wrong.  I'm pro-choice myself, but I just wanted to show you that he's not as conservative as he says he is.  He may say he's pro-life now, but it seems awfully convenient that he would radically change positions on this issue right before running for president.

Ron Paul is my choice. I don't like his anti war sentiment. We should finish what we started.

lol...  His antiwar stance is the reason why I like him.

I'm telling you guys...  If the Republican party wants to elect another president after Bush's rather pathetic performance, it's gonna need an antiwar frontman.  The American people don't want anymore of this war.

It's like how the Democrats lost in 2004.  Kerry didn't stand out enough in his views against the war.  The people preferred re-electing a guy that actually believed in the war rather than a guy that pretended to be against it.

Nowadays, we have people pretending to still believe in the war despite its hopelessness, but Ron is one of the few Republicans who sincerely is against it.  He and Chuck Hagel seem to be the Republicans' last hope for leaving Iraq without further embarrassments.

Ron is more educated on why the war is bad than even most Democrats, and he has the record to prove his sincerity.  Some of his economic views are a bit naive, but overall, he's got better ideas than a lot of the frontrunners of both parties.  The only thing he's lacking is funds....

I watched it, or as much as I could stomach anyway. For some reason it reminded me of the old SNL Sinatra Group sketch with Phil Hartman....

I have no illusions of Roe v. Wade being overturned.  Therefore, the abortion issue is not a deal breaker for me as long as he can beat the likes of Clinton Inc.

I don't like Hillary either.  If it came down to her or Romney, I might even vote for him.

I'd probably vote for Nader instead though.

He displayed the most confidence, even on his abortion issue. Romney seemed more prepared than the others (Especially McCain). He didn't hesitate as much and had great presentation.

Tancredo seemed competent also.

Well, I'd prefer Romney over a lot of the contenders, but he's Mormon.  A lot of Republicans won't vote for him strictly because of that.

Glad McCain didn't make it. He's shallow. I don't know much about this Romney fellow, I was rooting for Ron Paul.

Stereotyping ftw.

People really need to vote for those who are most like them politically and not care about if they are Mormon, or Jewish, or Catholic, etc.

I don't think thats necessarily true, it could be that they don't like how his religion might be influencing his policies. There are many reasons and there's no need to make assumptions.

So all the atheist politicians I can technically dismiss because I don't like it?

People need to grow a spine, are you going to vote for someone barely cut rate or someone who knows what they're doing?
