Say you could, What business would you run? With realistic start-up costs, and why?

I personally would set up some sort of courier/house moving business locally and nationally the setup costs would be quite low (a van and insurance). I think selling services is probably more profitable than selling a product.

Maybe if there was a demand for it some sort of beer keg selling/bar hire company, if the weather was better all year round, although it would be quite tempting to drink your stock mmm 88 Pints of Stella.

When you get a job the most you're gonna earn is your salary. But if you ran your own business and it was successful you could be loaded!

Anyone here want to/already does run their own business?

when i started my business, it took a lot of hours of very hard thinking.
i calculated start up costs, made a prospectus to outline my income expectations and then jumped in all the way.

i cut down on costs by building most of my tools: air hammer, forge, belt grinder etc....hell an air hammer alone can cost upwards of ten thounsand.

sometimes it gets really tough. im not good with paperwork at all.....my skills lie in my hands, so im really fortunate that my wife deals with most of the paperwork and sales period. shes the one that walks into places and gets my knives in their case....she gives me alot of ideas also...right now im working on designing chopsticks for women to put in their hair.......you know what im talking about, when they put their hair in a bun and put the sticks in...anyway, my wife wanted a pair and it turns out i might be making a bunch of them cause everyone she tells has placed an order.

its really about being able to keep up with peoples needs. when what you are selling starts to decline, you have to find the market to make money.

its a hard thing to do, but i dont think i would be as happy as i am now if i didnt do it. i make my own schedule, i get to spend time with my wife and i get to pursue my hobbies.....the one downside, and this is because i work in my shop by myself most of the time, the lack of human interaction can sometimes start to drive me crazy. this site helps, but i find myself wandering into the shooting range while my wife is at work, not to shoot, but to talk to my friends to have that interaction. it helps with concentration, but it can really get to you after awhile.
