It's nearly time for the main event in Las Vegas tonight, the most anticipated non-heavyweight fight of my generation so far ...Oscar De La Hoya Vs. Floyd Mayweather Junior. I'd like De La Hoya to win because he seems like a pretty cool guy - a family man, smart with his cash and a great fighter over the years - but Mayweather, although a cocky bastard of the highest order, is, I think, genuinely the best pound for pound fighter on the planet. Mayweather though is conceding height and a fair bit of weight ...who will win, what do you think?
i don't follow boxing at all, mostly because the only fights worth watching are PPV.if they would have some fights on TV i think it would help the sport, because as of now it's declining in favor of stuff like UFC.i'm goin for De La Hoya though.

I'll go for de le hoya even though he's old , boxing is pretty much dead though http://sports.yahoo.com/box/news?slug=d … type=lgns, long live the UFC.
I have a dream box so I get all the available channels for free but surprisingly tonight the big fight is available to anyone with a basic Sky Sports package!aj0404 wrote:

It's coming to Belfast soon, although I'd say only the waster fighters will wanna go to that kip. I like K1 more than UFC, it's nicer to look at than the rough and tumble of UFC (although UFC training would be more useful in real life fighting I'd say).Miller wrote:

That's why I watch, to learn techniques. I haven't had any self defense teachings and don't want to. So I use the UFC. Pride is also pretty good.Braddock wrote:

De La Hoya will win it before or in the 10th round.
Jr. is a good fighter but I don't think he's ever been tested like he will be this evening.
Oscar is getting on in age but still has skill.
Unfortunately for professional boxing, this will be the last great fight for at least 5 years. Besides the obvious,(all of the popular U.S. boxers out there *or lack of* the boxing powers that be, don't have the wherewithall to broadcast this bout in high definition.
Just my 2 cents.

I did Karate from the age of 7 until 12 when I took up boxing for a number of years and eventually went onto kickboxing, which i still train at today (though I do not fight anymore). I had one training session with a UFC fighter and learned more useful techniques in that one session than in all of the Karate and boxing put together. That said if you land a clean kickboxing kick to the side of the head it's game over.Miller wrote:

I've seen that enough to know, yeah.. it works. The only style I have is, whatever I think is good for the situation. The only fights I've used it for are always at school, and even then it's just to see who's the better fighter.Braddock wrote:

Anyone stateside heard of Ricky Hatton? He was on course to become a big deal but I think the more money he makes the more he loses the fighting mentality. There was talk of him fighting Mayweather and Hatton beat Kostya Tszyu, who was a great champion.
i bet it will be a draw and everyone is gonna be disappointed
One thing that makes a big difference in a fight is speed training. Most people (though not everyone) can throw a punch but fighters who train thoroughly can through a fast punch, with accuracy. Since I started shadow boxing with wrist weights I've noticed a huge difference in speed, it's usually no contest then when you go up against some guy who thinks he's tough but doesn't do any real training.Miller wrote:

Fighting outside a ring is for losers though, I believe only in self defence if there aint a ref involved.

Hehe, the only real training I get daily is on my little brother
De La Hoya ftw.
They make the best punch bags!Miller wrote:

...I'm getting bored watching the build up fights now. Bring on the main course!
EDIT: I'm surprised by all the people calling it for De La Hoya, does nobody here rate Mayweather? I watched this guy destroy Arturo Gatti... I'd love to believe De La Hoya can win but I'm scepticle.

I always hate waiting for the end... typically I record the whole show and FF to the end.Braddock wrote:

Mayweather's Dad just got interviewed and he said he doesn't want to see either fighter lose! He trained De La Hoya for many years and still has a lot of time for him apparently... could be pre-fight mind games though?
I'd say that the mind games are, "he's the better fighter and will come away with it." It always makes whoever was told they're better get cocky.Braddock wrote:

Almost fight time, I'll bet anyone (up to 10 people) karma- De La Hoya in the 10th or sooner!
Looks like a De la Hoya masterclass ...in yo face Mayweather!
What a great fight... two great fighters, I hope de La Hoya nicks it.
sickener ...Maywather is a jammy bastard.
De la Hoya's wife is hot!
