Most people in France don't like Sarkozy, the only reason he won was because his opponent was a Socialist.

I guess the French are coming to their senses.
Last time I checked Europe was already part of the political West.........theelviscerator wrote:

I'm still waiting to see how he reacts to our foreign policy. Still its a good move towards the right.

Or this of course English .
Apparently 10 Downing Street just opened its own YouTube account. Blair is the first world leader to embrace online video.

The only plus I can see is his negative stance on Turkey entering the EU. Other than that, no good will come of this victory.

After watching probably a hour or so on various news channels of footage of celebrations, voters campaign team etc etc, it struck me that I hadn't seen one face colour other than white.
This is a dangerous swing to the right for France. Summer of discontent and rioting is coming, be sure of that.

Now that you mention it... it is all whites! And of course, riots have already started, although nobody pays any attention for the time being.JahManRed wrote:

If it was a big turn out like they say, then the people have truly spoken.
Will he not receive what they call in the USA “a honeymoon period“? Are Liberals that clanish, selfish and narrow minded that they won’t even let him take office before they try and undermine the Election results?
In a historical text. I only fell out with Clinton when he started slashing the Intelligence and Defense budget. History shows this was a reckless thing to do with tragic consequences.
This man hasn’t taken office yet, To riot seems to prove you have cast your lot as ignorant rabble.
Why not give him time to prove himself. That would be the masculine thing to do.
For what its worth.

I think the Europeans tend to define Western Government in terms that don't include having things like Gitmo.theelviscerator wrote:

I'm not surprised, he has to be kind with all the people that joined him even though they weren't in his party.
They talked about Claude Allègre in the article and he (along with other members of the SP) is considered as a traitor for the Socialist Party. So, he has to give them something.
The good thing is that he'll make an equal government.
Sarkozy isn't anti-Turkey, he's just against the fact that Turkey can enter in European Union because Turkey isn't a part of Europe but a part of Asia.Ottomania wrote:
