Whatever. I look at BBC News' front page and they've got headlines describing US soldiers killing civilians, the US apologizing for civilian deaths, etc (clearly trying to pick at everything going bad with the US military...). The headline about the recent terror arrests have the word "plot" in quotes (obviously they're secretly trying to say that the US staged this to scare people...). My point is that we can pick at subtle "subliminal messages" and "allusions" all we want, but in most cases it's about as accurate as the predictions made by stringing together patterns of letters in the Bible.CameronPoe wrote:

There's nothing wrong with those headlines.
-'The Town That Won't Die'- I'm sorry that a town with hopes of rebuilding offends you because someone put a flag up.
-'FBI Smashes Jihad Plot to Kill GIs In Name of Allah' - Maybe a little bias but then again nobody normally wants to hear about the attacks that don't happen.
-'Court Weighs Koran v Bible' - You could look at that any way you want to. It could be seen as progressive that the court is accepting books other than the bible.

Sure if you watched FOX I mean SKY news this afternoon you would think that the Conservative party were the ones responsible for finding the peace settlement here..

The flag picture is not a biggie - I know it's big news - it just fits in nicely with their main page 'oh my gosh we're under attack' look.Kmarion wrote:

I am not saying it's not biased but the BBC is not-for-profit. The BBC is funded by British TV licence holders - it doesn't carry any advertising.usmarine2005 wrote:
BBC is no better buddy. Time you accept the fact news is business and ratings.
I know you love to portray Fox News watchers as illiterate rednecks, but not only does it mention that the town was destroyed by a tornado, the whole story about the town has been blared on the news for days. You really have to stretch to think that terror plot next to tornado damage will bring ideas of beating up Muslims in people's heads.CameronPoe wrote:

What you are saying is no secret to Americans. I know it's fun to point it out (Just watch the Daily Show), but I would like to hear what people think the reasoning is behind "unfair and unbalanced". Is it just a winning formula of selling fear?CameronPoe wrote:

Fear brings people together. There was an opening in the market since the end of the cold war and it seems that people yearn for that 'good ole' fear again.Kmarion wrote:

(a) Iwo Jima and WTC wreckage doesn't have a monopoly on flag raising. No patriot here likes to see it in the dirt, and it looks like a heavy pole. Doesn't exactly incite me to hatred.CameronPoe wrote:

Please peruse the screenshot I captured of the current face of the FOX 'News' website.
(a) 'The Town That Won't Die' - captioning an Iwo Jima/Sept.11-esque flagraising event. This story must mark one of the proudest moments in US history, judging by the picture...
(b) 'FBI Smashes Jihad Plot to Kill GIs In Name of Allah' - a story which, going on the title, must mean that the US is ***oh my gosh run for the hills*** under constant daily threat from attacks by those darned muslims.... (I wonder why they wanted to attack soldier and not civilians? And what kind of ignoramus asks some bloke to burn people in islamic garb firing rifles in the air onto DVD??????????)
(c) 'Court Weighs Koran v Bible' - a story which, going on the title, MUST mean that muslims are taking over and destroying America and it won't be long before you won't be able to drive to the shops with all them mosques in the way!!!
...
[rant]FOX News - GO FUCK YOURSELF YOU WORTHLESS SHITSTAIN OF A HATEMACHINE

(b) Sensationalist title, yes, but then news nowadays has to compete with regular old daytime TV for the minds of the dull.
(c) "North Carolina Debates Use of Koran, Other Non-Christian Texts During Court Hearings." So what? Swearing on a book of faith is pretty much a trinket of a gesture. If you're not strong in your beliefs, it won't mean much. If you're swearing on a book you don't even believe in, then what's the significance? The title and article's content seems pretty unassuming to me.

The title on the main page states: Koran v Bible - if that isn't sensationalist and tribalistic I don't know what is. It blows the issue out of all proportion and alludes to some sort of clash of civilisation which just isn't happening in the US.unnamednewbie13 wrote:

Who cares what others think, if you're the only one thinking?
Even my atheist buddies see nothing wrong with it. You must be digging pretty deep to find special meaning in this article based on a truncated title. Now "Koran Threatens To Eclipse Bible" would be foolish enough to deserve mockery.CameronPoe wrote:

Again, the news markets itself to readers and viewers. You'd have to be nuts to think that news organizations exist merely to inform.unnamednewbie13 wrote:

why does the left make such a stink about FOX news leaning the right when CNN, MSNBC, and all the network newses are OBVIOUSLY left?
it's a double standard, yes, but the standard is not where the left would have you think it is.

This channel runs off the basest and most primal drivers unconsciously beavering away in every human mind: fear and tribalism. It's pathetic, in fact it's worse than pathetic. Any person living under a rock for the last ten years reading this tripe would imagine that muslims brandishing explosives, mortars and RPGs were swarming onto Delaware Beach on D-Day style landing crafts to meet their brethren in 'New Mecca' on the River Hudson!!! I've been to America many times and spent 4 months there once in one stint. Did I spot any muslims? Not really, none that particularly stood out. How can FOX be portraying an America on the verge of becoming the next Islamic Caliphate ffs. It really is ridiculous beyond words.
The bulk of the main page is basically inciting hatred against Muslims in general. Click on my screenie and it will take you to a story that is about whether the bible should be the sole item upon which you can swear an oath. It so happens that it was brought up by a muslim yes but read on. SETH COHEN (Jewish name) from the ACLU happens to be her spokesperson:And there's a little paragraph tucked away right down at the bottom:"This is an important issue that affects thousands of people of faith across North Carolina who are not of the Christian faith."It seems to me that it ain't exactly the jihadist muslim crusade FOX makes it out to be on the main page after all!!! As an atheist myself I would find it degrading to have my principles sidelined in a courtroom by carrying out some meaningless gesture on a book that means nothing to me.Several Jewish members of the state chapter of the ACLU have filed affidavits indicating they would prefer to swear upon the Old Testament, one of the religious texts of their faith, according to court documents.
You see what FOX are doing here don't you? Koran v Bible. Us v Them. Holy War. The 6 supposed 'Jihadists' intending to carry out their task 'In the name of Allah' - Allah isn't the fucking problem - their mentality is!!!! By implicating Allah in the whole 'mission' they are subliminally implicating all of islam. They are evil divisive cunts and they should be strung up by a regulator. Goebbels would be smiling with glee at their efforts in perfecting his art.
The flagraising picture is typically nationalistic subliminally recalling 9/11 and Iwo Jima on a page cluttered with stories about muslims that have been blown out of ALL proportion. It is designed to stir up that base emotion of tribalism and 'kill the enemy', when taken in context with the main stories on the front page.
They're no better than the Hamas Mickey Mouse children's 'Hate Israel' programs..

So, from your perspective a jihadist muslim that’s plotting a pizza bomb is a good thing? If these's dirty, sticky scum bags are if fact guiltily, hang the SOBs. And if Allah isn't the fucking problem, get your ass in the street and start protesting these mother fuckers who use Allah’s name to throw bombs. I haven't seen one protest yet condemning these bitches. I've only seen jihadist Muslim protest death. Now, if these bastards were jihadist christens or whatever, you would have seen news flames world wide condemning their actions. And you know am right.
Your teachers schooled you well, attack, then divert from truth is the action of truth.
And the only Goebbels running around the world; are the Hitlers with a head scarf wearing a bomb belt and killing innocent people.
