I just get annoyed by the MEC and PLA voices (no, I'm not a racist) and I always use 'English VO only'.

Though it might be useful in some maps to hear them.. But usually, if I'm in the hearing range, he's already dead.

I know that they can't do English with arabic/chinese accents for legal reasons, but there has to be a better solution.
Why on Earth not?  What's illegal about an accent?

I think that's exactly what they should've done (English version)...

Playing USMC...
  Friendly: English
  Enemy: Enemy team's Language

Playing MEC/PLA...
Friendly: English in Arabic or Chinese accent
Enemy: Garbledygook.  Maybe like Charlie Brown's teacher... or just pure made-up stuff.   Hrm... how about Esperanto... or for fun... Klingon?  On second thought... there may be licensing issues with Klingon, lol.

I dunno how accurate these are...

I do know that in Battlefield Vietnam, they were almost dead-on. The only thing that was wrong is that the guy had a wierd accent, one that is not used in the Vietnamese language, but for the most part it is understandable and accurate. The taunts are pretty funny, too

bustin' hymen.... rofl that is hilarious

but yeah, they are pretty accurate translations, I love hearing my UAE friend say all the things in arabic, but the PLA things are a mix of mandarin, cantonese, and even some hokien.

Correct me if i'm wrong but on Joint Ops everyone spoke english, Russians, French, German, can't remember anymore but I do remember there was a fuckload of different nationalities ingame just with different accents and I don't recall hearing anything about legal problems. It was a bit crude tho like "We should attack" "Ve shud attack!" "Ze should attack!" lol.

wensleydale8, go into your audio options and uncheck English VO Only

Milk.org, i think the legal problems they'd be worried about is stereotyping. The accents in JointOps, for example, are quite stressed and in cases over-exaggerated, and may cause people of that nationality and culture to be offended, taking it as the game is poking fun at their accent.

Actually I listen for the 'You're good to go, buddy!' and then it's frag time.  Hopefully I'll get both the medic and the revived zombie corpse.

I can say from experiance that tactic really pisses me off though when the tables get turned....
Good call!  I might start doing that!
Hmmm... never noticed that!! I will hear for that, because they say "Medic" that means there are some around!! Good Info!

I find myself knowing them too, just by the noise and what it sounds like, not by the language.  The one I always remember is something like "Abackshehabluedabahad" or something like that - when an MEC flag is taken over.

The other one I like is the Chinese "you got it" or something like that, it sounds like a grunt:  mmnggtttgt.

NOTE:  Not making fun of the languages, just the way they sound in BF2.

And one time, I actually found myself saying "Houter" or whatever the MEC "Okay" is to a friend that I was playing with in a LAN game.  Guess I was really into it.

Well... first point is, they wouldn't be...  it's just an attempt to a) add some realism, while b) keeping it understandable without having to be trilingual to play a video game.

Even still...   where's the legality come in?  Who would have cause to sue EA, and why?  Even if they went as extreme as they could to be as stereotypical as possible?  At worst, it'd be a PR problem, I would think.

Personally, I don't need it to be a thick accent...  as far as I care, it could be a guy from Hong Kong with perfect English...  but you can still hear the Asian influence in his pronounciations.  As for MEC, could be an Oxford educated Saudi...  I don't care.  Gee... maybe I can be offended that some of the USMC voice overs have a stereotypical John Wayne swaggering feel to 'em.

We're not at war with China, and there's no such thing as the MEC.  The problem is that to have some grand modern battlefield war going on, you've got to make up some stuff.  It's fiction... there's no good guys and bad guys.  I'm American, so I like playing US...  but hell, on several maps I like the strategic role/goals of the other side better, so I'll switch.  Anyone who can't see that it's FICTION is an idiot, and I'm a bit tired of companies and culture in general trying to operate based on the lowest common denominator.

It's just too bad they can't make up some humanoid alien force to come down and be the enemy... because they wouldn't be using gunpowder, diesel-fueled trucks, and rotary blade aircraft.

I'm an Arabic Linguist in the USMC, and I can say yeah, the Arabic is good, and accurate as far as military terms and all that. And the person who said something about the UAV, that's just a normal translation thing, yes the words in Arabic literally are "Airplane without a Pilot" but that's what it is in English if you think about it. Translation always sounds a little off when taken literally. And the guy who said something about Dutch, you're just hearing it wrong, the only Arabic in the game has been what's called MSA (Modern Standard Arabic), there isn't any dialect that I've heard.

could someone tell me how to spell the MEC commanders "Negitive", sounds like "rave munkin". also the MEC one when you die, sounds like "sucka da hada getshan" or possibly if there's somewhere that's got the spellings.

I always hear funny german phrases from the MEC and PLA.
It's the phenomenon, that you tend to understand words in your native language from foreign languages that you're not familiar with.
I will write down some of the phrases next time I play PLA or MEC.

Btw. what language will this new European army in the upcoming booster pack use? I d like to see German not only because i could understand it but it s also the language spoken by most Europeans as far as I remember.
Ah well lets just hope they wont fuck it up using some Russian guy born in New Zealand who went to school in Turkey and is now supposed to do the synchronization.
Like when i watched X-men2 in English it took me half the movie to realize 1 guy was supposed to sound german.

My guess is it'll be English. Sorry, we used to own half the world...

Oh, I'm sure they will - there'll probably be dodgy French and German accents that'll make it sound like an episode of "'Ello 'Ello"...

LOL...

Has anyone seen "House"? American medical drama series - Hugh Laurie's american accent sounds really dodgy to my British ears, but I understand the American public really like it - with some not even being aware that he's British - is this true? Anyone else think it sounds dodgy?
