So I've got a ViewSonic 22" widescreen monitor.....just got it.   Used to have a standard 19" flat screen LCD.

I'm running windows at the max resolution supported by this monitor (1680x1050).  However, BF2 does not support widescreen resolutions I guess (there is no resolution to match the native res of my monitor).....so it stretches everything out on my screen when I play BF2 (ie, everything is "fatter" than it should be).  Is there anyway to adjust this?  You know, maybe like have it so there is just like two black bars on the sides of the screen, and in the middle is BF2 displaying at a normal ratio?

I wanted to have a big (well, bigger than I had) widescreen monitor.....but I don't like how everything got stretched out in BF2.

Thanks.

Command Line
There are a range of commands - mainly designed for servers running BF2 - which can be activated via the BF2 command line. You can use these commands by going to your main Battlefield 2 shortcut you use to launch the game, right-click on it and select Properties. Then in the Target box, after the “C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe” +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 text, insert another space, then use any of the commands below. Each command must have a single space between it and the next command.

For example, one of the most commonly requested commands is to run BF2 in 1280×1024 resolution (or another custom resolution) - particularly for LCD displays which display the best image at their native resolution. To do this, change your command line to look like this:

“C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe” +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024

Note: The addition of the +szx and +szy commands that respectively set the width and height of the resolution to be used. Substitute other values for other resolutions (e.g. +szx 1900 +szy 1200). Also note that as of the 1.03 Patch, 1280×1024 is now a supported resolution and can be selected within the in-game settings, so you don’t need to use the +szx/+szy commands to force it anymore.

The following are the known command line commands for BF2, and descriptions where possible:

Note: For those of you not familiar with commands such as these there is one thing you need to know: After a command, enter a space and add the value. For most of these commands the value you will have to enter is 1, thus activating the command. To deactivate the commands either delete them or replace the 1 with a 0 (zero). The exceptions to these include commands such as ‘playerPassword’, mostly, the exceptions speak for them selves.

+szx - Set resolution width
+szy - Set resolution height

Yours should be

“C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe” +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

The problem with that is that it does little to solve his problem. He wants to get rid of the 'stretch' - even if you set it to 1680 x 1050, it will still be stretched, except it will tax the video card more.

I don't know if you can do that black bar thing (1942 did), but I suggest you just get used to it. I've always played BF2 on my 19" widescreen, and now everytime I see skill videos, I think "WTF it's so thin!"
Or you could just go back to your 19" for BF2.

No it won't.

But FOV won't be spot on and a tiny bit will be cropped.

BF2 3D images should readjust by themselves.
The 2D images (ie: HUD: ammo, minimap, menu etc) appear stretched in bf2, there is no way to fix that...sorry .

This is because BF2 does not support widescreen

How wouldn't it? Doesn't your frame count go down when you up the res?
