Scientologists/Mormons = crazy cults
I watched it and I had the the impression that Scientology was a joke about religion that has gone woefully wrong!! And now they are spoon feeding it to society through our celebrity culture. I say end both, however they both seem unlikely to go away.CameronPoe wrote:

What's even scarier is that Mormonism is the fastest growing christian religion.fadedsteve wrote:

As it goes for most religions, it's more or less a rubber crutch, but apparently some people need this to feel somewhat complete. I feel most religions are out for some kind of money rather it be good or bad. I dont know about having to pay to be higher up in a religion that is just odd.
I know this is kind of off topic... but to anyone, read Neil Stephenson's SNOW CRASH. They refer to the main figure as L. Bob Rife, seems like a funny comparison to L. Ron Hubbard... haha

You want the real story on Scientology.... Here it is. This guy's been sued more times than most.

Replace Scientology with any religion and you'd be called intolerant, including traditional tribal religions. Scientology is a cult thing really, it can be hardly called a religion, even by peple buying into it. Just the other day we had someone here trying to start a religion regarding a lacrosse player. There are distinct differences between somthing like scientology and somthing which is considered a religion by those outside the religion.usmarine2005 wrote:

The South Park episode with Tom Cruise stuck in the closet is a good one to explain the basics of scientology. The best thing is that Parker and Stone didn't have to make any jokes to make it funny, they just showed exactly what scientologists believe.

I agree but disagree with some of what you say. I am sure some religions were considered jokes and were ridiculed when they started out.Ty wrote:

That in fact would be the norm (not the exception).usmarine2005 wrote:

cult
• noun 1 a system of religious worship directed towards a particular figure or object. 2 a small religious group regarded as strange or as imposing excessive control over members. 3 something popular or fashionable among a particular section of society.
— DERIVATIVES cultish adjective cultist noun.
— ORIGIN Latin cultus ‘worship’.
religion
• noun 1 the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods. 2 a particular system of faith and worship. 3 a pursuit or interest followed with devotion.
— ORIGIN originally in the sense life under monastic vows: from Latin religio ‘obligation, reverence’.
scientology are deffinatly a cult if you look at point 2 of the cult deffinition. if you try and leave they harrass and stalk you and try to discredit you. you can't even go over to someones house if they're scientologist as they try and convert you all the time (have firest hand experience with this), don't know about you but when my jewish friends come over to my house i don't try and convert them to christianity nor do they try and convert me to judaism. but you have to praise the guy who invented the religion based off his core belief and philosophy "whats better than making people believe a lie, making them pay to believe a lie." the guy was renoun as a pathological liar and science fiction writer before he formed the cult, or i'd prefer to call them a guild, as they have all there blatent espionage, joining fees and members are forced to do tasks for them to remain in and not become a target. i can't believe they havn't taken to court for spying and breaking civil and human rights, and member confidentiality.

So Scientology is crazy, money hungry and absolutely refuses to accept that anything it does or says can be wrong.
Remind me why this is different to the rest of the religions....

My girlfriend saw it and told me about that documentary. Apparently the founder of Scientology Ron L. Hubbard (former science fiction writer ...alarm bells ringing anyone?) was once quoted as saying...
...mmmm (type that into google if you want references, it should return results ...I'm talking as though Scientologists are actually going to try and defend their faith here or something!?? lol)Ron L. Hubbard wrote:

Because most established religions didn't start out looking to strip people of their money, they've just become corrupted over the years because the people involved are, well, people, and that's the sort of shit people do.usmarine2005 wrote:

Actually, one of the most disgusting things about Scientology (to me), and one of the things that really, really marks it out as being a dodgy cult rather than a real religion, is the notion that there are 'levels' that you can attain, and you get a higher level by donating more money. To get the top level 'secrets' you apparantly have to have given over $100,000. That's a shit load of money. Last I checked, none of the worlds major organised religions (Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism (not really the same as the others, but one of the big belief systems)) have anything like that. You don't buy a Bible by installment, working your way up to discover that "Jesus Saves".
Oh, that, and the whole "Alien souls blasted around the world by nuclear-bombed volcanoes by an intergalactic warlord are now infesting humans and must be destroyed" business. Even on the scale of some guy who walks on water and comes back from the dead, that's pretty crazy shit.
Yeah cults are people that dress in black and go round telling people what they can and can't do, were as priest's.....eh......(Father Ted) !
Christianity was considered a cult and remember the Romans used Christians and Live bait for the lions in the Arena. Then Rome decided that this Christianity thing was pretty cool and then the WHOLE world had to be Catholic.
I've fallen out of favor with most religions in the world once again man construes things so that it suits his needs. In regards to Scientology HA !!!
I'm not to sure if any of you have heard of Bennie Hin? that guy is EVIL personified he goes on huge rallies and people end up giving their life fortunes away to him to be healed from Aids/HIV and Cancer etc he's a "faith healer" This guy is so good at what he does he has a private lier jet...

money makes the world go round and there is no better a way to make money that to use faith and religion its a sure fire bet to get you some cash. People like Mr Hin are going to burn something awful when they leave this plain....

I have no idea what the above poster is on about
As far as I could see from the interviews it appears the celebrities themselves dont even know what their beliefs are. Apparently they didnt know about xenu. From this I picked up that Scientologists dont know what they believe in, but surely this is inpossbile, can someody elaborate?
