Everyone has ADD!!!

I think people need to start owning up to their own problems, and stop inventing "illnesses".  While this thread sounds like a Scientology advertisement, I tend to agree with Psychiatry being a bunch of BS.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a lie... why do some people who are chronically depressed feel better after good therapy and/or good medicinal treatment?
They don't feel, they are forced to feel via medication or just by simply venting out. But the issue here is that they don't, by any manners, have a proof to say that someone is nuts.
Would you call a person who jumps off a building a sane person? This specific person is a woman, tall and great looking, happily married with 3 children. She had clinical depression, and took daily medication prescribed by her psychiatrist. She was the mother of a friend of mine. She had a normal, happy life.

One day an endocrinologist prescribed her some diet pills, as she wanted to loose weight (as all women do...) without knowing she was on other medication. The diet pills cancelled out the effects of the other medication, and she committed suicide in a weeks time.

My friend's mother would still be alive today if it were up to psychiatry. To me, thats undeniable proof that it is as important any other medical field, but probably the hardest one to understand.
I'm guessing the suicide had a lot more to do with the diet pills themselves, rather than the diet pills "cancelling out" the effects of some mood-enhancing wonder drug.

Forensics, with some pharmacology, proved they were the cause. I'm not guessing.

Yknow, while I think it is easy for people who have never had a disorder or needed to see someone to say that it is all BS, I think people like ATG, Cameron, and I know that you people need to reevaluate your stands.

Mental Disorders, or whatever you wanna call them, even if they aren't empirically testable, do exist.

I have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Severe Depression, and Anxiety Disorder.

I am able to control those with medicine, meditation, and psychotherapy.

Without the treatment, I can be depressed, suicidal, nervous, and sleep-deprived.

I thank my doctor for helping me, and I scold myself for not getting help sooner.

Maybe it's just psychological.  They just feel "better" because they feel better.

I have always knew and believed that because there isn't a model from where to judge which people are "crazy" and which ones are "sane".
This is nothing new. It has always been a hit-or-miss occupation.

I'm guessing not. Pharmecuticals are rarely, if ever, tested in long-term studies. Most drugs are very dangerous. After all, you don't ususally think of ingesting chemicals which have a half-life as healthy. Add to that, at least in the states, Doctors face a huge conflict of interests as they are wined and dined (often literally) by big pharma. Medical science isn't science.

Yeah, I'm sure his doctor knows better than me, just like my dad's doctor did while the lithium my dad was taking fucked him over from the inside.
Lithium is a whole 'nother ball game from what I take. I'm taking a modern SSRI that has little or no side effects whatsoever. To be honest I can hardly remember what it feels like to be in the state I was - all I know is that I'd rather not lapse back into it. The drug is designed to increase the brain's production of serotonin to 'meet demand'. When taken for a considerable period one then ramps off the drug gradually and your brain supposedly picks up the slack of serotonin production. I intend to ramp down soon.
Good to hear you'll be off it soon enough. A lot of medications have 'no side effects,' but have never been well tested in the long term. Good luck to you.

You should publish that, call it the "anti-placebo effect."

Placebos only work for certain problems. Sorry.
