So it's ok for conservatives to say that liberals are terrorist loving, mentally diseased people who break out champagne when their soldiers die because they're against the war and they would rather destroy the country than have the republicans running it but liberals are not allowed to say anything negative because the stereotype they are given by conservatives says that they are a bunch of lazy stoner hippy's who wouldn't say anything nasty to anyone?

Besides which, he seems to miss the point that if we (or at least, if I, don't want to speak for others) call someone racist it's because of what they say (i.e. "blacks are inferior!"), not how they say it (i.e. "blacks are inferior pieces of shit!"), which would be the cruel verbage.

I think it is a combination of both - the politicians and the system.

Congress in general is a conglomeration of windbags, old money, power hungry people (look at virtually all the women in Congress) and hacks that learned how to suck on the teat of corporate lobbyists.

And then there are the people who keep voting them in...Imagine if the elections in the US were such that unless 50% of all eligible voters voted, the elections would be null and void.  Seriously, we have a small minority of people electing our leaders/legislators.

Also, I would be interested to know how many that took part in the "Approval Ratings" poll actually voted - what gives you the right to bitch and moan about the state of affairs if you can't even get off your Krispy Kreme weighted down ass and vote once a year?

So why not join the corporations or buy some stock and at least make some money while you are complaining?

then, if you are a true liberal, you can donate your proceeds to charity or fund a documentary about why corporations are terrible.  that would be the real irony too since it would be like the corporations funded the thing in the first place.

but back on topic...there's one thing to be said about posting a response with class and another with crassness and vitriol.  being passionate does not necessarily mean being vulguar, condescending, nor demeaning.

I'm not a liberal -- I'm a cynical misanthropic curmudgeon.  I just don't pretend that capitalism is some great gospel of prosperity like so many conservatives do.  I acknowledge the shitty system we have and the shitty tendencies of human nature, but in doing so, I realize that not much can be done.  I'm just working on getting my piece of the pie while the rest of humanity does the same.

I gave up on "charity" and human progress a long time ago....

Acceptance of views isn't the issue liberals have; its the imposing of views on others that liberals take issue with.

eg.  Make abortion legal: Anyone who believes its wrong is still free to lead an abortion-free lifestyle and anyone who thinks its okay is still free to lead a lifestyle which abortion may impact on.  If its illegal, the conservative leads a life no different than they would have if it were legal, but the liberal is more restricted in their choice.  I am NOT trying to start an abortion debate here, you could use legal weed or gay marriage in this example and the idea would remain the same.

Essentially, pure liberalism is about the preservation of personal freedoms.
