For on its a god damn hog on system resources. Secondly, the whole damn map revolves around whoring choppers... you can't even get into the AA before getting blown the hell up. And thirdly, who the hell thought fighting on a carrier would make for a cool map?
A piece of shit. Any time a server loads it I will be taking my leave.
MEC STRIKES BACK!!
Its probably to get back at the fact where theres water in bf2, theres the USS Essex pouring aircraft and boats by the dozen(apart frm op cleen sweep)
its probably the fact that the Essex isnt a fortresses... it least thats the senario.
otherwise, they fukin choppers wreck the entire map(apart frm the mi-17), why not give the US a Blk hwk and then that would open up the map completly!
not bd ideaDuramen1 wrote:

i work at a naval yard and we do lots of work on full sized carriers if you think the essex is confusing don't ever try to go on to a real carrier. the carrier in this game is a piece of cake to find your way around compaired to carriers in real life.
just spend some time on it by yourself and figure it out.
memorise the positions of choke pts and hiding places n stuff.
if u r the us u auto win most of the time if u have a great commander
I love that map so much, as MEC its awesome if you're part of the group that takes the first flag and all the hallway and hanger gunfights are so cool, sadly everytime I try to play as the U.S. I get switched.
FUC* U its the best map of Speacil Forces
iron gater rocks. By far one of the best map every the the BF games
There are signs above the doors that lead to the CPs as well as signs in the hallways, but they are kinda hard to notice. I argree with you completly about the viewing deck, if EA wants you to go up half a mile of ladders then they should have gotten rid of the choppers, or moved that Cp to the bridge.Zantar69 wrote:
I think the IG was a good concept, but it has too many faults. Every hallway looks the same and its easy to get lost. Plus, the spawn points are tough to get to, like the viewing deck. Plus, the deck leaves you wide open to choppers like was previously stated. I think they had the right idea, they just made the map too complex and not enough ways to access the different floors.
my favorite way to get in there is to fly the MEC transport into the hangor bay. you circle around the carrier and not one person even looks at you. even if there are AT there to shoot at you, you can fly in really fast and then just jump out and be capping already. i've also flown a full MEC transport into the place the boats go with a full squad, we then took over the whole ship pretty fast.
Ive only played it once and I thought it was alright.
Started off in US favour but once we got on the ship and capped a few flags it soon changed.
not amazing but a nice change.
My worst map in BF2 is probably Songhua Stalemate - overkill on the fog man!
Worst map on SF is probably - Mass Destruction (if Im thinking of the right one...bloody fog again!)

I absolutely HATE Iron Gator.
EA needs to realize that a good, hearty proportion of BF 2 players have not- so-graphic intensive computers and that putting large statics into the battlefield engine is a MAJOR lagfest. I have no idea why the devs even considered putting in such a large static. I understand that on high-end machines it could be a pretty good map, but some people ought to look at it from another perspective.
Sorry to say, I felt like a frickin rat running through a laggy maze when I first played the map.

I hate it, end of discussion
oh come on, the 7.5 fps isnt too bad just gotta use the DAO and hope you get lucky
I like this map... but my fps drops to 15 in most of the rooms. Does better on deck, but man, I can barely move in the hangar bay.
Iron Gator and Operation Clean Sweep are great maps, but require the MOST teamwork. I was playing IG last night and was trying to tell people who made it onto the carrier to become squad leaders so people could spawn on them. What happened? Nothing!? They're just running around on the carrier and eventually get killed. UGH! Why do people refuse to think in terms of the team. My best rounds are usually because I find some guys that are great squad leaders or members. I good squad can clean up. I wish people would realize this.
I love this map, esp playing as a MEC, because once you've gotten into the ship, it's full blown action, if your support or medic. The trick is get onto the ship and here is what you do: (the reason i am sharing this is because a lot of idiots just take the damn transport helo and jump off while others are still waiting for it and it takes forever for that to respawn) take the transport helo and get everyone on board and fly towards the east side after you've heard 2 of the missiles from the ship fire off, then fly towards the ships gun, but fly low (hovering over water) because after a little bit the missles or the gun cannot target you. See it's easy, I've done it several times, if i get the damn transport that is and it works perfectly for me. Once you're near the ship, you need to fly low and get behind it then climb up and drop everyone on the top or the hanger behind the ship.
IG is so much fun when the MEC have captured the Viewing Deck as their only carrier-based flag.
They keep spawning on it, and you should see the total confusion when they are looking into your multi-barrel goalkeeper cannon had 17 kills in a row using this sneaky method.

I can't think of a better map than Iron Gator to get your knife and pistol medals......that is, if you care to.
I like IG but the lag thing kills me too. Ihope the new patch takes care of it. Same prob w/ warloard. All other maps work great for me.
Iron Gator is ... different; talk about Close Quarters! I think most of the people that dislike the map is 1) they are too stupid to get on the boat 2) not familar with the layout of the ship. I like it but if you have retarded people on your team (either side) then you are either 1) not getting on the ship 2) loose the engine room in 3 seconds. I like it, rates a close second to Warlord.
then i think u need a better pc/graphics card...<{SoE}>Agamemnar wrote:

as for game play its actualy quite good i seem to get most of my kills on this map? but i dont actualy like the map its self but it does give good game play
I also love this map, but i try to stay of the deck....thoose damn helo:s....
Lot of nice close quarter-fights inside the carrier...
FUN !!!

It all lags its SF ain't it!
Iron Gator is by far my favorite map. It requires real tactics and teamwork to pull off. I think its the most realistic battle you can have in any of the maps. I think that after the patch and the chopper nerf it will become easier.
Hey all let please let me add a few things in here! Duramen1 has it right. while the iron gator I SUPPOSE TO BE A CARRIER. What Iron Gator is in reality is suppose to be an Ampibus Assault Ship. LHD class. why do i know this I am serving on one right now! If they had based it of a Carrier or a LHD everyone of you would be lost and dead all over. In reality the insides of the ship does look the same all over! yes if you where a great at flying you could fly a chopper inside the hanger of the ship. they are designed for you to store and work on the aircraft. want to make it more fun reality you would be able to drive an apc from the well deck UP to the hanger! you could even drive a jeep from well deck to flight deck. we have ramps inside for stuff like this. But of course for the sake of saftey and to a large degree the military would never allow EA to actualy use the blue prints for a carrier or any other class of active ship in the navy......Duramen1 wrote:

It normaly takes a new sailor a week or two to learn a small ship.
a month to two months to learn a Ampibus Assault Ship.
and 3 to 4 months to learn a carrier. And you still wouldn't know every place and where.
Were it a real ship's lay out...........It wouldn't be fun. Be thankful they made it easier!
