Yeah. If you keep killing the non-medic, you can keep him dead (and the idiot medic busy) for quite a long time. Which is great for several reasons. Lots of kills, the dead guy must be getting really annoyed , and it keeps 2 of the other team busy.

If im close enough, i just jump in the fray and knife them both. they usually dont know whats going on and dont expect an enemy to be lying on top of them with a knife.

Much the same reasoning for why I gun down enemies running at me with knives (instead of drawing my own knife), or risking putting away my own assault rifle to knife someone else for the "glory/ownage" of it.

I've learned one too many times that someone else is waiting nearby to do the same to me.
This is too true.  The guy with the knife invariably whines that I unfairly AK-101'd (or whatever) him to death.  Half the time I'm too busy panicking that an enemy is charging right at me to notice he doesn't have a gun in his hand.  The other half, I know that with my luck, I'll get three or four "puffs of smoke" with my knife before he hits me and kills me on his first hit.  Screw the glory, if I want the knife kill I'll have the thing in my hands prior to the battle.
LOL.

Yep.  The knife is so often glorified more than it should be in some instances.  Invariably, everyone is gonna have their back turned at the wrong moment for a good knifing.  It's just gonna happen.

There are a couple of instances I like to use the knife:

1.  Silently kill two or more "sleeping" (prone) opponents.  A personal favorite is the Convoy spawn point on the tall buildings in Ghost Town.  I can catch upwards of six people up there.  If I went around machine gun blasting, they'd inevitably catch on.

2.  Close-quarter combat (CQC), and I'm a sniper.  Especially while taking spawn points.  Most players either panic, or don't even know what's going on when you're suddenly next to them slashing away.  Likewise, being a one hit killer, it eliminates people quicker than the pistol.

3.  OUT OF AMMO!  Happens to me a lot when playing medic or assault in a lot of CQC (I only use the G3 for assault).  I'll empty the magazine of the assault gun, empty pistol mags, then inevitably pull out the knife.

4.  Game Shutout:  Been happening a lot on one server I've been playing recently.  The other team winds up being pushed back to their main flag, and they can't recover.  Inevitably, a base raping occurs, and isn't going to end.  I can either sit back, and let everyone fight it out (Pfft!  Boring and bad for the score).  I can go in and participate in the carnage (Meh!  I just feel wrong doing this).  OR...  I can go in and participate in the carnage with knife in hand  (Entertaining!  May be bad for score, but I don't feel as bad doing the baseraping).

5.  Done Out of Spite:  It's kinda invigorating to knife someone in the back after they've killed you two or three times without retaliation.  Usually not too smart, but it can be a morale booster for me, and a morale buster for them.

Wait for him to revive, then empty a magazine into the general area.

but the amount of times i have failed, or get killed waiting for the revive... stupid me, i really should just kill the medic and get on with it... but the extra 2 points, and making the enemy wait for another 15 seconds is too irresistible!

So, does that get more kills than running like crazy for cover while reloading and then going back for seconds as soon as you hit the last round or two?
Also, why do you only use the G3? The F2000 is more accurate, has a better aiming thingy, and bigger clip size, and only loses a coupla points of damage. Is it through some kind of loyalty thing, force of habit, or the feeling that you're more skilled for doing so?

Personally, I never end up resorting to the knife. I'd LIKE to sometimes, but it never occurs to me that I have the time to. If I'm that close and he hasn't noticed me yet, he usually gets my main weapon unloaded into his head carefully before he DOES spot me.
Or my pistol if the main is unsuitable or running low. I don't believe much in melee weaponry.

Yeah, thats right. Even better though can be not killing the medic at all. Wait for the revive, shoot the guy being revived, let him get revived again... and so on. Good if you are hidden and there is no chance of the medic coming after you. Unintentional kidnapping ftw
Yeah, stat padding for the win.

It depends. If it's in an open area where one of them can't immediately duck behind some place and then pop out behind me, I'll wait for him to revive, then kill both.

I'll shoot the medic and if he revives his comrade I'll shoot him again too.  If I have someone in my crosshairs I react and go for the kill, I find that if I wiat for the revive and stay in one spot for too long I'm the one in danger of being picked off.

LOL... I was playing as a sniper one day, and due to AUTOBALANCE (*shudder*) a good friend and I couldn't get on the same team. So I snipe someone taking a flag, and saw it was him. I was about to relocate, cause I knew he would be gunning for me, but I saw a medic sprinting like a mad man at him. I put my crosshairs on the medic's head and then, giggled a girlie little giggle to myself, and moved my crosshairs to my friend's head instead. Zap, he is revived, but before he can move, BLAM. I kill him again. The medic lays back down and so I wait a second more. ZAP... BLAM... The medic dives down again. ZAP... BLAM... Then I realize I only have 1 bullet left before a reload, so I just cap the medic instead. My buddy was cursing up a storm, and I was trying to hold the scope steady around laughing... Good times... Good times...

For the above scenario, I'm talking a lot of close-quarter combat.  I mean running into more than one person at once, or having another enemy within killing distance.  On average, I can kill two to three enemies per magazine using burst auto-fire with the G3, and three to four enemies with medic weapons.  However, I've still managed to find myself running into more enemies than I have bullets available.

Don't get me wrong.  I'll use whatever cover and crazy dodging I can manage, but I've found that without some measure of offense (even a small amount) usually results in death.  Fact is that enemies are more likely going to give chase to a fleeing person, than one who is still managing to hurt them.

There are several reasons why I prefer the G3 over the F2000.

1.  The G3 is more accurate, IMO.  The F2000 have an optical sight, which is nice, but in terms of accuracy and damage, I'd prefer using a SVD over the F2000 on semi-auto fire (because the optical sight is just about useless for accuracy on auto-fire, IMO).

2.  The G3 is more powerful.  Yes, it has 10 less bullets per magazine, but I've learned to burst-fire with the weapon quite well.  Which means more lethality per bursts.

3.  The biggest reason:  Grenades.  I don't like grenade launchers, and for a number of reasons.  One is indirect fire.  The grenade launcher's blast radius is small enough that you have to hit pretty damn close to kill an opponent.  Which means that it's more or less a direct fire weapon.  As such, it loses versalitly in my book in comparison to the assault rifle itself.  Practicality aside, I also view the GL the same as many other people view claymores.  It's too easy of a weapon to utilize for one hit intant kills, but the time it takes to reload can be fatal when facing multiple opponents.  As such, I mark it as a weapon for beginner mentality.  A weapon resulting in a 1:1 KDR if used exclusively.  Much like those snipers that run around suicide claymoring.

The biggest reason why I'm comfortable using a knife when absolutely needed was kinda addressed in my previous post.  I have 330 hours as sniper, and much of that time wasn't spent on the wide open maps that many other snipers enjoy (i.e. Wake, Mashtuur, Dragon Valley, Kubra Dam, Dalian Plant).  I have a lot of time on city maps, and I'm not one who likes to always sit back and pick off 200+ meter shots.  It's fun for a while, but I prefer to be where all the action is.  Supporting my team not entirely on the front lines, but close enough to be in danger to gunfire other than that coming from enemy snipers.

As a result, I've learned to not panic when I'm carrying a bolt-action rifle vs. an assautl rifle in CQC.  I'd prefer not to be stuck in that situation, but the reality of it is that it's not going to always be the case.

So, I've learned to rush in close enough to most players in order to use the knife to lethal conclusion.  Many players, with exception to the most experienced players, do panic when rushed with a knife.  Most can't shoot accurately enough without standing in one spot, but even then, quicker reaction time is needed more often at those closer ranges (which most players don't have).  Likewise, as you've pointed out, many players don't us the harder hitting weapons (like the G3 or AK47), and  they're very likely not going to get too many lethal hits that close to a zig-zagging enemy with those other weapons.

All that said, I still would prefer to keep opponents at a distance, like you, but to me, the handguns are better as finishing weapons (i.e.  I've already hit him a couple times with my assault rifle before it ran empty on ammo) instead of alternative weapons.
