It may be hard to understand if you haven't seen the series prequaling it called Firefly, but basically...

River, this super girl, is holding this big secret about what the "government" once did to this planet. She knows it, it's making her kind of crazy. The governemnt knows she knows it, so they want her found. Anway, Mal and his crew onboard Serenity (The spaceship) kind of want to know what this secret is and then expose the Government for who they are. So thye try and try... Don't want to spoil much of the story.

Alot more information there my version was sketchy to say the least...

But it truly is an amazing film... And series. Both worth watching. You will not be disapointed.
