The Panda lived for almost 4 years. So no harm done - and even exactly the opposite of what your thinking. They are using captive breeding - as a means to enhance the survival of this endangered species. It might not have worked this time - but they certainly learned quite a lot about breeding these animals in captivity - which was the first hurdle to overcome. Teaching survival skills is the next. It might have failed this time, but not necessarily in the future. And by the way Pandas (and other wild animals) get killed over territory fights all the damn time - this is not a revelation. It might have happened whether or not the Panda was a wild born Panda.

If evolution wants to exterminate the pandas, just let it, its not like we use them for any purpose, and they cost more to maintain than they bring in in tourism revenue anyway. besides, they seem hell bent on killing themselves off anyway.

Fit can mean being a slow large animal, that small carnivores cannot eat, that only eat bamboo. 5.) Evolution happens over longer periods of time. Not minutes, or days, or a year, or tens of years when considering a large organism. For example consider the American Buffalo [Bison] (a sacred animal to Native Americans); these were hunted to the brink of extinction in a very short period of time. People used to point their rifles out of moving trains and shoot them just for fun. And, hunters (& the Government in an effort to reduce their population as part of their effort to remove an indigenous people: the Native American) used repeating-rifles (machine guns) to shoot down herds, strip the carcass for the hide, and leave the dead animal to rot in the sun.
6.) "Hey, I've got a Panda in my cross-hairs," moron thought "you'd better evolve in the next 10 seconds or you're one dead bear," moron concluded.

Only human effort to increase the American Buffalo [Bison] population - stopped this animal from becoming a footnote in a biology textbook. The same is true for Pandas - it will take human effort to undue what human effort has done - many times before: brought animals to the edge of extinction through a callous disregard for the natural-world we (all) cohabitate with - all those other organisms evolved in nature.
