President Bush has called on 15 major countries to agree strategies to reduce greenhouse gases.
Didn't anyone tell him about the Kyoto Treaty? Wow.

Unlike the Kyoto treaty it looks like that would include China.

I guess he finally realized he's not as special as his parents told him he was.  Now he doesn't want to go down as the worst president in history.  Oh well.  Best not to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Why should China agree on this one when it does not sign the Kyoto Treaty?

The jury is out for me as regards the 'man-madeness' of global warming but conserving finite resources of something we use to make PLASTICS is a big issue for me.

Hopefully by the time that happens, we have something better than plastic. Technology is the key.

We could all be doing the right thing in terms of conservation and diversification and penalise China for not doing so until they will. Just because one stubborn shit of a nation is reluctant to commit doesn't mean everyone else has to not bother. Hence the reason practically everyone except for the US, Australia & China have signed the Kyoto Treaty and are working towards the targets set down within. Even Russia and India signed the damn thing.

Question is what would replace plastic, I mean you could look around you and see over a hundred things made of plastic or with some sort of plastic on it. Its gonna be difficult finding a substitute. Man its changed from Global Warming to plastic But at least Bush is trying now.

The Kyoto Treaty doesn't technically enforce anything, in other words any country could sign to it. However, no no one/nothing is holding them back from actually following up on it...

Besides, Global Carbon emissions have been reduced by 1.3%, what are you worrying about?

That is such an excellent point. Most people who say "whatever, I don't care about greenhouse gas emissions etc" really aren't considering the long term sustainability of the planet. People need to consider conserving what we have now and not completely destroying it so life can continue in the future.

And who exactly would measure this accurately enough to determine whether they were following the guidelines or not? Not to mention, what would happen if by natural causes (But later discovered) Co2 increases? Seriously, what power does this treaty have over one's country... If they aren't 'following' the guidelines, wouldn't they simply back out of the treaty?

I'm not worried about the future. Besides, what is the point to life? It doesn't matter what happens when you are gone, but what happens while you are still here.

That is for the governments to hammer out. I work for the Irish National Grid and all you hear about at the moment is 'meeting the Kyoto requirements with renewable energy', yadda, yadda, yadda. We currently have about 800 MW of wind, hydro and landfill gas on the Grid at the moment. We have connection applications for wind power that will bring that total to nearly 2500 MW. Peak electricity demand for the entire year in the Republic is currently about 5000 MW. The governments have to make it happen. Emissions monitoring isn't rocket science - you just gotta buckle down and start doing it instead of pansying around.

Humans breathing emits Co2, along with every other living species, there's billions of species alive, should we buckle down and limit how much we breath?

I see renewable energy as being efficient and saving costs and somewhat resources... not for the sake of god forbid 'Global Warming'...

I think it's safe to say that factories emit more than your average human. You record emissions by monitoring industrial activity and utility/fuel bills for said factories.

What because it involves sacrifice? Because it involves emissions reductions?
