I now know why the Military coined the phrase "hurry up and wait".

I just spent much of my day yesterday at the Military Entry Processing Station (MEPS) in LA. Holy God. For the most powerful military in the world, we sure are unorganized. It took a group of 30 people 2 hours to get our folders BEFORE the processing could start. Ouch. All things culminated in the worst day ever. Rather extensive physicals, blood work, urine tests, physical screening, mental screening, background check, counseling.

The best part is, you can't small talk with the other recruits to be. This whole system could be a well oiled machine, seeing as we are the United States (lol, the US being efficient), but no. Waiting 2 hours between posts because the doctors are older than Moses.

Long story short, It took me from 0200 to 1400* (12 hours) to process 3 pages worth of information. And I have to go back in a year and do it all again. Balls.

They really need to make this kind of thing more efficient.

Try the British approach:
Don't rant about this on this forum where nothing will get done, write a nice formal letter about it and find out whoevers job it is to sort this out, make lots of copies and send one to this person, if they don't reply within a week send 49 more copies, if they continue to ignore you then write to whoever has power to fire that person and complain. It probably won't work, but theres always the chance it could (and save yourself some grief next year) and at least you tried if it didn't work.
Oh and make sure you state somewhere in the letter that you would like a reply otherwise you can't really blame them for not replying.

Here is the really scary part.  Should ask someone there how many people they process.  Viewed from the POV of the MEPS personnel, it is most likely pretty efficient.  Granted, it really does suck to go through it yourself.  You think MEPS is bad, wait until you get '5 minuted' to death.

There will be a division formation at 0900.  It takes 5 minutes to march from the Brigade area.  We want to make sure no one is late, so the Brigade formation will be at 0840.  It takes 5 minutes to march from the battalion area to the brigade are, and we want to make sure no one is late, so the battalion formation will be at 0820.  Noone wants to be late for the battlion formation, so the company formation will be at 0805.  YOur platoon leader does not want to look silly, so the platoon formation will be at 0750.  No squad leader wants to see his troops be late to any formation, so YOU have to be there at 0735.  So now, there you are, standing in formation almost 90 minutes before the start of the division formation.

Which branch of service you going into?  And I went through that whole thing as well.  It was a very long day, to say the least.  At least they had a game room in the MEPS in Atlanta were we could pass the time when we weren't signing paperwork or any of the medical stuff.

I was there for the Marines. I just hope the paperwork went that way

the MEPS in Los Angeles has a gameroom, but none of the games were on, so I spent my 1 hour lunch break sleeping next to a TV that was playing M:I 3

Oh man, when I was in 29 Palms... PT was scheduled for 05, but platoon formation was 0300. WTF is that about. LMAO. Good times though, you just stand there in PT gear... feeling the cold breeze and being the desert... when PT starts... wham... temp shoots straight up and you're sweatin' your balls during PT.

But MEPS isn't really all that bad. All the Admin people in there need to make sure all your paperwork is good to go, and YOU need to make sure your paperwork is good to go. When I signed up, I was picked up by my recruiter at zero3, into Ft. Hamilton MEPS station by 0430, all the paperwork was done by 1500. There were 30+ other Marine poolees with me.

Mountains will scare you during the humps. Go watch, EARS OPEN, EYEBALLS CLICK! That's MCRD SD. I went to PI, so no mountains, but a ton of sand fleas. I hated the hills in 29 Palms. PT uphill is such a bitch, especially if you're in the end of a company run. Freakin accordion. You're definitely gon hate those mountains when that accordion thing hits your 10 Mile hump. But don't worry, man. We're here for you!

Apparently there is a 100 mile hump from 29 palms to the backside of Pendleton these days. It almost sounded interesting.
