Dunno i personally don't get the fascination in guns so i don't have an opinion hence the lack of involvement in the zillion of gun threads, for what i gather you go to a shooting gallery and put holes into bits of paper?

Now big game hunting, I'd do that shit....moose's and stuff not endangered beasts.

see, what a lot of people here dont understand is that it requires skill to fire a weapon accurately. i have a very good time every weekend when i go and "put holes in paper"....its a challenge.
say what you will, but a lot of people in this thread have never fired a gun to begin with, so when they talk about what guns are practical and which are not i just kind of sit back and have a laugh.

I personally don't hunt and don't kill animals, ever. I would make an exception for a wounded animal.

Okay, maybe that explains it a little, people are proud of developed skill.

when i started shooting handguns i was comfortable @ seven yards.
now i shoot @ 25 yards, and let me tell you........the center of the target is covered by my front sight post, so i cant even see what im shooting at. when firing a handgun even the way you hold it and pull the trigger can make an impact on your ability to hit targets accurately....that problem only compounds itself the further you are from the target.
will i ever need to use my handgun @ 25 yards? hell, i hope i never need to use it, but experience tells me that if i need to, it will probably be within 10 yards and in a low light situation.

so not only do i practice in case something like that happens, but i practice to have fun also. when you center a shot @ 25 yards it is a damn good feeling.

to be quite honest i'd like it if the gun laws were slightly more relaxed in the UK just so that bolt action .22's were legal as then i'd get one and see what its actually like then try target practise as i have the feeling that i'd really enjoy that its just not legal here though.

Strangely though in the UK you can legally own a double barreled shotgun for hunting game from the age of 17 if you have a secure gun cabinet with a lock on it and have declared it with the local police. the age to buy them at is 21 though.

I wouldn't allow any pistols overr 9mm and any automatic weapons as those would just be too relaxed in my opinion as what use would you have for an automatic weapon really? Even pistols can be used efficiently for target practise but generally i'd say that the larger pitols are just absurd anyway. i'm going to stop here before i start rambling on further about guns and bore the lot of you even more.

And the everyday practical use is?  And that's my problem with guns, they mostly get bought because people like ATG think they're "cool" rather than because they actually serve a purpose.
What about MP3's and iPod's? They serve only as an entertainment device, like this gun, what everyday practical use does an iPod have other than entertainment?
Media storage?

But seriously you are kidding right?  MP3s and I-pods serve an entertainment purpose through the medium of acoustics.  They have an everyday use for million of people who use them on the way to work or running etc for listening to their favourite music and the music on them can be changed whenever you want so in 5 years time you will still be using it.  Guns (especially ones like these) are supposed to be for “self protection” and not entertainment devices according to all the pro-gun arguments I’ve ever heard.  Once you’ve shot a tree and maybe a wild animal (if you’re that Neanderthal) I don’t see were the “fun” will come from?

Don’t get me wrong, I’d have a laugh firing it for about 10 mins and then the novelty would wear off I think and I’d be like “Ok so what we doing now?”.

I was once asked by a gun advocate what I did in my spare time without guns, made me laugh for ages…
so i'm a neanderthal because i like to hunt and take target practice...or should i say im my language."UGH arg bah, uhg um arg arg"(best neanderthal i could come up with)  by using your logic u hate the environment and are a pirate.  i am sure not all of your MP3s are legal and Ipods use bateries which are horrible for the environment.   see how generalizations are pretty petty and 3rd grade-ish.  you should think before you speak.

hurray im a caveman for hunting rabbits! woot!

who shoots at trees? we do have targets and stuff you know :\ not just walk in the back yard and shoot anything we see

"I was once asked by a gun advocate what I did in my spare time without guns, made me laugh for ages…"
sounds more like someone who's obsessed.... im a gun advocate but that doesnt mean i expect everyone to love them

"I don’t see were the “fun” will come from"
have you ever done it? no? nuff said? i think so

"Guns (especially ones like these) are supposed to be for “self protection” and not entertainment devices according to all the pro-gun arguments I’ve ever heard."
uh... where have you been reading this? what kind of asshat thinks you should only use guns for self defence?
(not you, the people who you you got the impression from) sure they CAN be used for it, but it's not their only job you know.

I'm not so sure about that. I mean, I've think the number of rounds in that as well as the automatic capability would set off the law alarms.
nope, that gun is classified as a semi-automatic and is legal in Cali, while actual semi-automatic ar-15s are illegal... California is one screwed up state....

.22 calibre rifles are toys, eh?

Then the Russians noted that Chechen snipers were effectively using .22 LR (long rifle, them little bullets kids use to hunt squirrels and rabbits with) weapons. Inside towns and cities, the .22 LR sniper was very effective, especially since the Chechens would improvise a very workable silencer by putting a plastic bottle on the end of the rifle's barrel, with a hole in the bottom of the barrel for the bullet to exit. Using a cheap scope, Chechen snipers were very deadly at ranges of less than a hundred meters. Such ranges were pretty common in built up areas. And since you usually did not hear the shot (to the head or face, of course), you had a hard time finding the shooter. Having suffered from these low tech .22 caliber Chechen snipers for ten years, the Russians have come out with their own professional .22 LR sniper rifle, the SV-99. This is a little heavier (at 8.3 pounds) than your usual .22 LR rifle, but is built for professionals. It has a heavier barrel, a bipod, silencer and scope. It's 39 inches long and can accept five, eight or ten round magazines. There is a compartment in the butt stock for two five round magazines. With the SV-99, at a hundred meters, a skilled shooter can consistently put all rounds in a half inch circle. This is a specialist weapon, most likely used by commandos. But any trained sniper can quickly adapt to using it. And snipers like not being heard.

I said it looks like a toy.  I never said that it was a toy.  Are you sure that thing is legal in CA?  I find that hard to believe...
