Hey, when I got home from work last night, my computer would no longer boot past this screen:
https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g294/twigmar/xp20install2010.gif
I remember that before I left for work, there was a java update available, but I did not install it.
before it gets to that screen, It goes to the "windows was unable to start successfully" screen.
One time it did get through, but I didn't do anything special, and when I got in I did a disk clean up and spy-ware scan, and nothing out of the norm showed up.
Any ideas?
Do you need more info?

I have tried the "Last know good configuration" option, but that did not work.

thanks
Nic

p.s. It always freezes at a random spot in the loading process.

Your hard drive may be failing.

If it crashed at the same spot all the time it would be windows just messed up but random spots during loading is a good sign of hardware trouble.

Take your case side panel off and listen to the drive as it boots up, if you hear any clicking (noticeably different from "normal" drive operation) then you likely have a failing/faulty drive.

I started in safe mode with the help of a clan member, did a system restore, and that didnt help...
so i went in, in safe mode again, and he said try a disk volume scan, did that and had to restart to make it happen, now it also freezes when I try to log in, in safe mode, when it reaches the JGOGO.sys part of the loading.

I hope not... At least untill I can get my info off of it....
Weird thing is, last night it did boot all the way in, and allowed me to play for a bit...

What kind of hard drive do you have?

Look on the manufacturer's website for some DOS tools to see if the drive has errors. Also try running MEMTEST86+ from DOS.

You'll need a floppy, flash drive, or a burnable CD/DVD for this.
