Humans try to destroy Earth, Earth counterattacks with death and destruction
Humans cripple the web of life that is Earth. Teetering on the brink of destruction, Earth battles back through naturally borne bacteria, plague, viruses, etc. Humans wage a war on Earth while concurrently researching another planet to destroy.
Once the dust settles, the Earth resembles Dune/Waterworld/any Neo-Noir vision.
This is my imagination.

i don't imagine a WWIII. i think there will always be war in certain parts of the world, but i can't see things escalating into 'axis/allies' powers. i really don't think that there will be nuclear war between countries, but i contend terrorists will obtain warheads and use them against the US and EU. this is a very real possibility, and if such acts are committed, then i believe countries targeted will respond heavily with special forces units and deniable assets. this might lead to many assassinations of world leaders, for example, with nobody to blame but terrorism.
there are just way too many nukes in the world to openly drop one on a major city.

Probably USA/western Europe coalition against China, with Iran and Russia stuck somewhere in the middle, along with terrorist organizations mixed in. As soon as it gets too close for comfort for one side, the nukes will fall. Except, probably, there will be no one left.

If WWIII ever does occur, i think the nukes will ensure its over before people even know who is involved and what the alliance are.
Australia just has to pray the fall out blows away from us. Although, id say we would become a theatre of war as possibly we may be invaded for our Uranium and other natural resource stocks.
