Well, I for one know that if half the people I know knew that I was on forums talking about games or whatever then they'd go ahead and label me a geek when the chances are they do it themselves.
At school, I hear endless bitching and talking about MySpace or the English equivalent "Bebo" and I mean what the fuck is the difference between forums and this Social-friend site bullshit? Forums are, on the whole more specialised on a subject and generally have a great member base which will help out whenever help is needed and it is possible. All I hear about these social sites is bitching "So-and-so posted a comment saying I was a slag!" and I myself have had my fair run-in with these so labelled "Internet Bullies" in the form of some chav from South London insulting my ex but the thing is: these kind of people would point blank deny that they even use the internet and act like some uneducated dumbass because they think it will make them cool when in fact, they're just making themselves look like an uneducated dumbass.
Why do others frown on people using forums? They're a fantastic source of knowledge and information and a great way of making "friends" if you can label people you meet on the internet that which I think you can as you have a relationship of sorts with these people and if it came to it you'd most probably get on in real life as well as on the internet. Another thing is, why is "real life" called "real life" on the internet? The internet is real life, it's not a made up world, it's all happening.
I think that within the next five years at most gaming will become even more mainstream moving in to the realms of some of the more popular sports i.e Tennis or maybe Rowing over here. Gaming has the potential to become more popular than Football (all variations), there's already internet TV channels set up about it, reams of forums and endless news sites, much like football or any other sport.
Gaming may be frowned upon now but soon it'll be one of the most popular things around, the base is there and it's only going up.
tbh.
Yes, this is a random "article" of sorts, feel free to disregard it if you feel the urge.
