Is modern society better than past ones? Past a.k.a. any other time than present or contemporary times. Is modernization always an improvement? What things from the past (f.i values, traditions, beliefs, standard of living, etc) would improve the Modern Society?
Less political correctness
Women respecting men again. But that's a pipe dream after feminism went off the deep end.
Here in the UK I would like to see more power back to the police and schools to help get deal with our Yob culture.
We should all worship the Earth Mother, like the Druids did in days of old.
The Bible has resulted in nothing more than 2000+ years of murder and oppression.

Spirit of community.
I would prefer that one of the great empires of old (such as Rome) never fell. Imagine how advanced society would be today if we had been unified all this time. We would have Star Trek ships and holodecks. Also, gladiator arenas and other facets of Roman culture were pretty cool, but mostly holodecks.
The bond between humans and all speaking one and the same language.....
May be Utopian but just my 2 cents.

We should bring back the option of smacking kids who misbehave (I'm not talking about beating the shit out of them - just a smack on the legs). If they realise that bad behaviour = pain, they'll stop doing it. It certainly worked for me.
Much better than the pathetic "Stop misbehaving or else" as the kids know that phrase really means "I want you to stop doing that but thanks to the government using any effective method of making you behave will get me locked up".

The things paranoid said.
Oh, you mean like becoming subservient? Or, here's a thought...how about we expect as much respect as we give. I know it's a tough concept, but try.Stingray24 wrote:

No, I don't mean subservience at all. Just ask my wife, she is just as free to make choices as am I. That’s why we have debt. We're equals, but we have different roles. Right now she stays home with the kids and I go out and earn a wage. In the past she used to work and had a successful career. However, when our 2nd child was born she felt strongly that she wanted to be with the children. The smallest amount of deference she shows to me goes a long way. I feel respected and that motivates me to be more considerate of her.
I do expect as much respect as I give, as you said, which is why some women need to back off the attitude against men a bit. We're not all self-serving jerks and those of us who treat women as equals should not be lumped in with that group. I'm all for women's rights in our society, but not when it's taken to the extreme and just being a man is an insult to a woman.

Don't forget vomitoriums. Plus I like the whole Dionysian lifestyle.Cerpin_Taxt wrote:

But yeah, holodecks.
Christianity would also probably never get a footing, seeing as Rome would have expanded throughout europe...and we all know Rome's stance they had on Christianity.Cerpin_Taxt wrote:

No, you are incorrect.ATG wrote:

We can thank crazy people for completely opressing and murdering because they were just crazy and could just read the book upside down!
Yeah, especially that Constantine guy. Oh wait...Poseidon wrote:

QFT. (Don't forget the Quaran either. That's caused a few...)ATG wrote:

Also, having no AIDS/STD's again would be nice. We could return to a more Greco-Roman lifestyle.
Yep, the bible causing 2000 years of murder is finally getting on my last nerve :dodgy:ATG wrote:

Dinosaurs...lots of them.
Isn't Utah the capital of Polgamy here in America?Agent_Dung_Bomb wrote:

I stood in line for four hours. They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something. - Rodney Booker, Job Fair attendee.
Dunno, I think humanity should be looking forward to solve current problems. Worrying about creating new ways of technology, science, human science(sociology, philosophy even psychology) and government practices.
Trying to confront the modern challenges with obsolete laws, dated cultural behaviors even mysticism and deep religious thinking its nothing but bull shit IMO.

Dinosaurs, for sure. People would be a LOT more respectful of nature if you could get whacked by a raptor coming screaming out the bushes and eviscerating you where you stand with a claw.
The building of big stone monuments. Stonehenge rocks, I want one.
Hero-worship of engineers and love of technology. Too many eco-freaks and wussy crap-artists these days.
1960s car design. Big cars, big engines, sweeping curves. Imagine what you could do with a big-bore V8 with today's electronic wizardry.
1940s aircraft design, because big piston engines make a wonderful noise.

Wow. Ignorance FTL! First of all, Rome had already expanded through most of Europe by the time Jesus lived. If it weren't for the Romans, X-tianity wouldn't be half the size it is today. Yes, we all know the whole Pontius Pilate crucifixion story, but within a couple of hundred years the Romans started converting in droves. Heard of the Holy Roman Empire? That was what the ancient Romans turned into. It was officially a Christian empire and stretched from Spain in the west to well past Turkey in the east. If Rome had never fallen, it's quite possible Islam would have been crushed in the early days. By now, the Romans would have conquered damn near the entire world and Christianity would most likely be the only major religion left.Poseidon wrote:

spartan law.
We should build more pyramids.
