does anyone know something i can substitute for a fuse.  i made homemade smoke bombs and dont have fuses.  I dont have any other fireworks tht already have fuses on them either.  Does anyone know a way i can make a homemade fuse or substitute something for a fuse without having to buy some fireworks or pre-made fuses..

If you soak the string in gasoline mabe.  I don't think that yarn/string would work very well, if at all, by itself.

go to a fireworks stand and buy it by the foot like i used to do.
WARNING! after 9-11 people get jumpy about homemade incendiary devices.
good luck though.

Magnesium strip. But go the whole 9 yards and make thermite

original fuses from about the 18 hundreds composed of 3 thin strings that were tightly wound and black powder was poured into the string whilst it was being twisted, they were made very tightly so that the powder would burn slowly but not escape or just fall out of it.

i'm more interested in your home made smokebomb though, i mean the only other bombs i know how to make are petrol and napalm bombs, not that i would though *just to make sure that MI5 don't arrest me tonight* as of course napalm and petrol are piss easy to make bombs from, though the nastyiest ones are the napalm bombs with boxes of steel nails around em, they're nasty if the napalms is in a closed container, but to make that one would be pretty psychopathic really and you'd be screwed if the police came round.

EDIT: i'd of thought that from my general pissing about with things in chemistry lessons i.e. burning magnesium that it would burn too quickly but i'm not really an expert so can someone tell me if this is true or not.

i had to get another way besides potassium nitrate and sugar , i think my friend is gonna take some from his chemistry class next year

Magnesium ribbon = win

Magnesium ribbon is a perfect fuse, great trigger for things like thermite, due to its huge burning temperature and the fast it reallllly easy to ignite.

You could even rig up something like a chain of matches or a lighter that you attach a string to and use at a distance if none of the *quality* advice from this thread is feasible

Stick a lit cigarette into a pack of matches place fuse on pack of matches and wait. When the cigarette burns down pack of matches goes up and fuse is lit

Alright, i know you dont have fuse but do you have black powder? Because, if you do, take a strip of electrical tape or masking tape and get the sticky side as covered in black powder as you can, i mean packed. Then role the masking tape with the black powder on the inside, If you can, once the tape is covered, take a thin (THIN!) line of elmers glue to the right side of the tape, now, stick more powder to the elmers and let it dry.

Roll the masking tape with the black powder facing the inside and starting from the Right side (meaning there will be the strip of elmers on the inside, make sure not to roll it too tight, you want airflow inbetween the elmers and inside of the masking tape. Now, you can use more masking tape to hold your fuse-tape together. (From the outside of coarse)

This should work depending on how flexible/long you need it, and how flamable the explosive it.

(Theres nothing I love more then amatuer firework'ing)

good luck finding the magnesium or thermite.
i need to show paperwork to get mine for the forge....you can do some very bad things with it, so they arent excited to hand it out to anyone.

Get two long wires, attach one end to a 12v battery and wind the other end of that wire around a screw(-).  Screw the screw into you smoke bomb amd screw another screw into the other side making sure the tips of the screws are only a couple of millimeters apart or baarely touching each other.
Connect the other wire to the other screw.  Then connect the other wire to the battery(+) when your ready.... Annnddd Boom!

Why use napalm when you could just use gasoline?

The old volkswagon cars had magnesium engine blocks.  Imagine how blinding that would be if it caught fire!

It's ridiculously easy to make thermite, I'm surprised more people don't know how to make it... And for that I am also glad.
