(I apologize.  This turned out longer than I expected.)

How much should I be worried about my stats?   Granted there are a lot of people with the mind set of  “Stats are everything.”  They play the game in such a way that their main goal is to increase their stats no matter what it takes.  That is not my question or my goal.  I just want to use my stats as a general guide to how I am improving and helping my team.  In general my stats are slowly improving by what I can tell.  Keep in mind that I am still using my noob account so I am in noob stat recover mode.  This is my first on line FPS.   I also have less than 200 hours of play time.  I don’t need to hear that my stats suck but I would love general constructive criticism.

Which stats are important?   What type of trends can I see from my stats and learn from?

K/D ratio:
I know that K/D is kind of important.  I am currently at .85 overall (.75 with medic) which increased from about .45 (noob learning) in the last few months after a RAM and V-card upgrade.  I play a lot of medic so I always seem to end up in some ones sights.  I know better than to run in the middle of bullet spray for a revive and I have gotten better at trying to neutralize the threat before I try to revive but people always seem to take advantage of a medic reviving a teammate.  How often do the good medics know to let that one guy die?  Is a low K/D via medic expected or will it just keep improving over time?  Should I worry that I am not above 1.0 K/D?

Accuracy:
My overall accuracy is at 16.69%.  That seemed horrible to me until I thought about the spray from machine guns and all the bullets that may miss a target.  Even as a sniper (33% acc) I’ll take multiple shots at the person running across the road.  I know some snipers won’t take a shot unless they know it will be a kill (One shot one kill) thus they have great accuracy but it seems to me that if I see an enemy I should try to kill them.  Granted, if I know there is no way that I can hit them then I won’t waste a shot.  Should I be worried about my accuracy or just wait for it to improve over time?

W/L ratio:
I hear that if your W/L ratio is below 1.0 then you suck and are a hindrance to your team.  How true is this?  I have a .73 W/L ratio.   It seems that most rounds I join are already in progress.  A lot of the time I am put on the losing team because they have less players.  (I assume this is due to players quitting or swapping teams because they don’t want to lose.)  I usually play out the losing round so I can start the next round right from the start.  Granted during my earlier noobness when I always had the most deaths in the round I could see that I was hindering my team but now I usually rank in the middle when it comes to deaths.  What do most people do when they join a losing team and it is 56 to 197?

Well … those are the 3 basics stats that I am watching right now.  I now leave the floor open for those that have much more experience than I.  Any stat based information would be appreciated.  I am not really interested in stat padding to improve them.  I want my stats to reveal my true skills as a team player.

Thanks

Lets just say Stats are life and life are stats.

Without stats you are nothing. People think you are nothing. Do anything you can to get good stats in bf2. People will give you loads of respect, especially if you put like 3000 hours into getting good stats

I worry about KDR and WLR.  As long as both are above 1, I believe it makes you above average.  I don't worry about accuracy much because I like to spray bullets at random objects (like explosive barrels, sandbags, etc.).  But overall, they don't matter.  Just have fun or this becomes a competition and not a game.

Don't listen to the second post lmao. Stats aren't important at all, never think that. Just focus on improving how YOU PLAY and not how YOU LOOK which is the most common misconception of how skill is rated. Summary, skill is rated on in-game play, not recorded kills.

My stats were ruined by my noob days so all I worry about now is getting my SPM to 3.00 and my sniper KDR to 2.00. Other than that I couldn't care at all what some guy over the internet thinks about me or how much I am respected on a forum. If someone thinks less of me because my stats are "teh pr0" then they need to go kill themselves. *edit* I also would like to raise my sniper rifle accuracy. I know that 50.5% isn't terrible, but I have and have had a strange obsession with snipers since I was really young. I try to live by the sniper motto of "one shot, one kill."

Stats are somewhat important, for your K/D ratio, most people that dont care have less than 1/1 and most people that just try for points with medics have less than 1/1, but really it's just your average K/D.  You could have an 18/1 round and no one would ever know so it's just an estimate.  But the accuracy is not really important because lots and I mean lots of people just randomly shoot at the air or ground so that's not really accurate either.  Your W/L ratio is not always your fault, sometime you just have a crappy team and you lose, there's nothing you can really do about it.  To be honest, the only thing I really care about on my stats is my K/D ratio, which is at like 1.23.

Stats are fun, but don't let it get in the way of you havin fun. I do however care about having an over 1.5 k/d ratio.  with the way I'm going I figure it will be at least 2.0000 before too long and thats what I'm shooting for.  Awards are also fun to get, but again, getting them can get in the way of having fun.  Heh, Back when I was really into my stats I started a new account and had a k/d ratio of 12, it was cool but then I realized that my noob account was teh fun.  So, get out of this what you will.

Stats are my LIFE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously... i think its cool to have stats, i rly dont know if i would play bf2 in it was not for the stats, i mean i still play CS 1.6 even if theirs no stats but of course playing a game with stats is more fun..... well i think so ? But when im in a server i dont play for stats anymore, just to have fun, i dont give a fuck having a KDR of 0.5 or 4 in a round, after all its just a game no ?

By reading your post, I hope you aren't planning on starting a new account because you didn't do so well on your first account. I wouldn't worry about that. When i started out playing, I used the Anti-tank kit and boy did i get myself into a hole quick. So much so that i didn't even play BF2 for about a year. I started back up and made an effort to play all kits and find several that I liked. I also made sure not to get stuck playing the same map over and over like a lot of people do. I will always use my one account and stick with that one. I have made progress and my kdr went from .7 to almost 1.4 and it didn't take all that long to do. As you can see my anti-tank kdr still blows but i will address that when i open all the weapon unlocks. Stats are nice but don't let it ruin your fun. You will get better and better and you will be as good as many of the current BF2 players. If stats become too important than you will quickly forget its a game and probably forget you even have a life outside of BF2. Anyhow, just keep plugging away and keep playing for your team no matter if you win or lose...I respect that.

Without good stats you are a useless smacktard of a noob! Bad stats should keep you awake at night. Play all day every day until you have respectable stats!   "Being Sarcastic"

Stats are just for fun... depending on how you choose to play depends on how much they 'mean'

You can get high K/D by becoming vehicle whores - or just playing one class on 1 or 2 maps.... I just call that boring

W/L ratio is very useless.... if you join for just 1 or 2 rounds at a time, then most the time you'll join the loosing side.
Also I sometimes swap to the loosing side (to stop everyone leaving and the game dying), I'd rather have fun and loose, than be bored and win.

If you have people about you, phones that ring, TV that your half watching, you play drunk, eat while playing, etc... your stats arnt going to be as good as those that only play 100% or not at all.

Just play for fun, enjoy the stats, but dont worry about them

KDR: Somewhat important, but obviously is still dragged down by your noob days. I would pay more attention to your KDR round by round and trying to keep it over one. Don't be a pussy and be all the way in the back trying to keep it up, but don't charge in anywhere and watch your teammates' backs. This also ties in to accuracy, the better you get at hitting someone right off the bat the more your KDR will go up.

Accuracy: This stat is something I like at when seeing how inherently good someone is at FPS. Some people have good reflexes, some people don't that's all there is too it. I ALWAYS take the shot, if I can see someone they are a target. If they are a really long ways off on a map like Wake then I may take a few shots and decide to move up closer, but I don't think, "Dang, I don't want my acc. to go down so I don't think I'll take this shot." Even if you don't think you're too good at aiming, it can be overcome with practice and out-thinking your opponents.

W/L: Screw this stat. I don't believe it reflects how much you are a team player, just a combination of the average skill of your team and what side of what map you're on. Not to mention every time you disconnect in the middle of a round you automatically get a loss, and if I want to leave I'm not going to sit for another 15 minutes for a round to end so my |_||33r1337 W/L ratio doesn't go down.

This is just a false assumption.  The only way you get a loss is if your team happens to lose the round you disconnect in.  I know this because I have had a few CTD's playing on Ghost Town and have been disconnected and have checked my stats later to find out I have an extra win because my team won that round for me even though I wasn't present for it.

KDR: Not the most accurate stat to judge by, IMO. If someone has a KDR of 3, it doesn't nessesarily mean that they're good. Remember, you still get a "kill", even if that person gets revived. Technically, someone could go 30-0 in a round and not cost the enemy team a single ticket. But is still shows that you can hit the enemy.

WLR: An even worse stat to judge by. Frankly, I'm glad that they changed the WCR requirements from the WLR of 3. You can put up UAVs, spot enemies and give supplies but if people choose to ignore them, or are just plain shit, there is nothing you can do about it.

Accuracy: High accuracy is impressive, but low accuracy doesn't necessarily mean that a person is a poor player. I'm not sure about everyone else, but to me it just seems more fun to unleash a collossal amout of bullets at the enemy, especially when using SMGs and auto shotguns.

One particular stat you forgot is SPM. Someone could have a low KDR, but compensate with a huge amount of team points. Helping an friend cap a flag or giving ammo out is much more helpful to the team the killing someone, only to have them get revived two seconds later.

I depends on what you do in the game.

Stopping tanks from killing your teammates and taking important flags is worth two, three or ten extra deaths per round that could be avoided easily by not trying to stop them.  Medic, IO, FF off, Karkand, 10 players - stats should all be very good.

In either case, BF2 is a game in which your first duty is to have fun.

IMHO Stats are what you want them to be.

If I thought about my Stats the way A lot of people do I might as well /wrists now.  Over 500 hours, Sgt. Major,  but a KDR of .58

Yeah that sucks, almost twice as many people kill me as I kill.  Let's look a little deeper shall we?  AT one point in time I had a KDR of .2something.  I'm improving but it's gonna take a LONG time to right my wrongs so to speak.

I have a lot of time as Medic and have plenty of revives, I've saved tickets for my team.  I also have a fair amount of Heals, meaning I don't just look for the 2 reveive points, I'd rather have you alive & killing the enemy.  My command time speaks for itself, not a high SPM. When noone else wants to Command someone has to sacrifice their kills & other points, for the team (even if we're all getting pwned or base-raped) .

Support?  Yuppers, I've put in plenty of time "Support Whoring", and my teammates haven't had to be frustrated with running out of Ammo, AT mines or (shudder) gheymores.

Flag Caps, Assist Flag caps & flag defends all help a Team win and I think I have my fair share of each.

When I compare myself to others I'm often dismayed at my KDR, but I know I help my team.

I bought this game to have fun.  To me fun is helping my team-mates, if I get killed more than I kill?  Big Deal I'm enjoying every minute of it (well maybe not getting base-raped/spawn-killed but it's a part of the game).

Now if I would just stop obsessing over improving my KDR I'd be fine.

The last time I posted in "Rate the stats above you" I was given 4/10.  That was probably a fair rating.  Guess what?  I think I'm a 7/10.

Stats are what you make them/want them to be.
