I need some help guys, last night, and I know this sounds unbelievable, I stubbed my toe on a railing, thin gis i was swinging my foot pretty hard and i was in pain for ages. Woke up this morning and the pain hasn't gone, it is in the little toe and it looks swollen, hurts when the toe is pinched and when I walk. Could anybody say if I have broken the toe or could they link me to that medical sight that was posted on here a while back, (the one where you can identify whats wrong by putting in the symptoms.) so I can find out whats wrong without an unnecessary visit to the GP.

thanks for any help.

Pull it, so all all bones are aliened (if broken) then tape the little toe to the next one with sport tape or other medicinal tape. keep the tape for a day or 10, but change every day or 3.

If you go Hospital they will X-ray it and then pull it if broken and tape it... nothing else to do.
Had toe's broken more then 20 times.

Could you still move your toes slightly when they were broken?

Sounds more like a jammed toe, they hurt for days. But if it is a broken small toe there’s not much there going to do for you. They may tape it, and tell you to take it easy on that foot (no jumping/soccer ect..) Give it 5 days to a week, and if the swelling and or pain is still there go see you GP. The swelling is what would worry me more than the pain.

Yes I could, aldo painful.
I could even move the 2 toes that where squashed, they now look like hammers do

just pull it forward starting at the base fo the toe and moving the fingers along the toe untill at the end, if the toe is jammed that should take care of it.

Well it does sound like you broke your toe but a doctor wont really do anything but give you some painkillers and tell you to get some rest.

this guy is right + the treatment is not wrong if its not broken

if it was my toe i wouldn`t get an x-ray taken because what does the information that is broken change?

tape it,cool it with an icepack (not directly on skin),lift it up high (higher that heart i.e. when sleeping),take some ibuprofen.

thats "lege artis".

if you`re still unsure,visit a doc

get yor ass up to casulty NOW!
same happened to me, it might not be broken (like mine) it could just be very bruised tissue (like my toe)
if its bruised tissue the docs at casualty tell you to put a load of anti-inflammatry cream on it.

deal with it... as long as the surface didn't split, which i'm guessing didnt because of teh amount of swelling you ahd, but if it did, get your ass to a doctor because infections in the toe are terrible. They are hard to get rid of, and can lead to amputation in certain cases. If it was just broken or stubbed, get it aligned if it is really crooked, if not, take advil and wait it out.

Go to the docs, then if it is broken you get official time off school/work.

I don't know how easy it would be to dislocate a toe, but strapping it up wouldn't help if it was

Hi, I'm a med student.

I can't really help you without really seeing your injury but I suggest you go see your doctor. Is there a reason why you can't?

The swelling suggests an acute inflammatory response by your body due to the trauma. Try to keep any lesions in sterile environment
i.e use betadine.
If it hurts to touch really bad, go see a doctor.

I'm a doctor, but you'll have to wait patiently

I suggest that you go and visit the doctor. If they give you nothing else, they'll at least give you a peace of mind.

And to bennisboy: was that a joke? If it was, I don't think this is the best place to pull them

(sorry, pun unintended)

I managed to do similar on a door frame, my little toe was pointing east of my foot

I pushed it back into place and strapped it to the other little piggies, tho it ached for a few days

90% of the people here think: you should see an doctor.

I agree with that, you have nothing to loose, plus the doctor actually sees the toe and has the right qualifications to do something (if necessary) about it.
