Any ideas?
Virus or something hidden in background.
Goto Windows Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del (on XP (hopefully vista is the same, if u use that)))
Select the Processes tab.
Click on the CPU column header twice. (Note: two seperate clicks, not a double-click)
Grab a screen shot (PrtScn, then Open Paint, Paste, Save).
Select the Performance tab.
Grab a screen shot (PrtScn, then Open Paint, Paste, Save).
Post screenshots here.

ctrl+alt+delete, and close the program that is sucking up 60% of the cpu...
whats the total load of the CPU? if you are idling at 2-3% it would make sense that the background tasks take up most of that

That's why I've asked to see screenshots - to see exactly what's going on and what he means - I think the answer is going to be "That's normal."max wrote:

is it like this? Low total load (3%) while system idle ("leerlaufprozess") takes up nearly everything?

Indeed it is normal, it really doesn't take that much of CPU power it just shows how much of it is leftScorpion0x17 wrote:

it's fine. it uses up all other space. mine is at 92% at the minute.
