Eating animals that have strafed around on fields, not stood in small boxes all their life to get to a slow, painful death, is OK. I agree that "the aussie way" to shove an electric rod up their neck is good, atleast better than the treatment showed in the movie. And yes, meat is an important part of our diet, but the ammounts we consume (Yes, me too) is way too large! Instead of the recommended scale of 60-40, we eat about 80-20 meat-vegetables. And we still have much meat over.
Now then, how did humans get big brains.... Hmm...
The current theory regarding evolution is that...
By eating meat, which is far easier to digest than plant matter, humans allowed the amounts of energy for digestion and development of digestive organs and muscles to go elsewhere. The prime spot for that elsewhere was the brain. Hence humans only started to get really smart once we started killing other things to eat. Eating meat is good for us.
If you want to go on religious theory then... They are just animals, fuck them.
As to torturing them. Sort out the torturing or 'rendition' of humans before we worry about animals.
In all seriousness, humans are disgusting, cruel creatures. Get over it.
Other interesting things on this topic include... The "Meatrix". Quite a laugh, clever and pointed.
