That's an argument you'd very quickly lose. The amount of water and land it takes to raise enough cattle to feed a city is insurmountably large compared to the minuscule (by comparison) resources you'd need to farm enough beans to provide the same nutrients (protiens).

That said, I eat cow.

As for this treatment -- yeah, that blows. However, that's not every place and the place it is obviously fails.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

No matter if this is very common or not, it's still horrible that it happens. I'm no vegetarian, and I don't say everyone should be, but the way theese animals are treated is horrifying. The (few?) places that treat their animals like this should get a makeover.

Listen, if you think this is wrong, then the enemy is not the farmers or the people that eat meat, its the HUGE manufacturers of meat products.  Just like a Wal-mart, they only look at efficiency and run the small, family-owned farms out of business by producing meat in extreme quantities and charging so little for it that no one can compete.  The only reason that I want this to change is for the thousands (probably more) of people that made an honest living producing food for the rest of the nation that don't have jobs anymore because of these ridiculous corporations that can manufacture it and sell it for a lower price.  Call me crazy, but I tend to care about the people effected by this more than the animals.

Meat is a staple part of our diet, without it, we would be malnourished. We need meat to live. Yes, this does not warrant the torturous killing of animals, but what do you suggest, that we give them morphine or epinephrine before they get killed?
I too have worked at a local abattoir, the killings there were quick. Otherwise a slow and painful death makes the animal go tense, thus making the meat we eat like old boots.
These animals are bred for a sole purpose, to feed us. If they're tortured in the slightest way before they're killed, it's not really going to matter because they going to die eventually, it's not like they're tortured and then put back in the fields for two weeks. I personally eat kangaroo, because I know it's healthy and they die a quick death, which is good, because the kangaroo steaks I get would be tough.

Eating animals that have strafed around on fields, not stood in small boxes all their life to get to a slow, painful death, is OK. I agree that "the aussie way" to shove an electric rod up their neck is good, atleast better than the treatment showed in the movie. And yes, meat is an important part of our diet, but the ammounts we consume (Yes, me too) is way too large! Instead of the recommended scale of 60-40, we eat about 80-20 meat-vegetables. And we still have much meat over.

My grandfather owns a cattle farm where he raises them for slaughter and I remember I used to go every year to cut the balls off. I have no idea why that is done but I was little. And yes they should just raise them then shoot them in the head to get it over with quickly cause all that torture is fuckin bull shit and now I am pissed!

Now then, how did humans get big brains.... Hmm...

The current theory regarding evolution is that...

By eating meat, which is far easier to digest than plant matter, humans allowed the amounts of energy for digestion and development of digestive organs and muscles to go elsewhere. The prime spot for that elsewhere was the brain. Hence humans only started to get really smart once we started killing other things to eat. Eating meat is good for us.

If you want to go on religious theory then... They are just animals, fuck them.

As to torturing them. Sort out the torturing or 'rendition' of humans before we worry about animals.

In all seriousness, humans are disgusting, cruel creatures. Get over it.

Other interesting things on this topic include... The "Meatrix". Quite a laugh, clever and pointed.
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.

Ehm... No. I haven't mentioned anything about any religion. With sin I refer to breaking any rule. E.G taking some candy from the table or going to sleep w/o brushing your teeth. Just couldn't find any better word for it.
