We are talking about a real situation in a real world not a hypothetical situation in a fairy tale world. And in present day in present political climate that solution is not possible. And its not due to lack of logistics....

What on earth are you talking about? The Greece Turkey thing was a quarter way through last century. Hardly millennia ago. The world has not changed that much.zeidmaan wrote:

"Official stance" my ass. This actually means that they want to separate Kosovo from the rest of Serbia. What exactly will be created is yet unclear. But certainly the area will no longer be under the jurisdiction of Serbia as it should.zeidmaan wrote:
Actually neither side is contemplating the idea of partitioning Kosovo in which case the population could be "rearanged" to their part of it.oug wrote:

Official stance of UNMIK is "Kosovo must remain multi-ethnic and the settlement must be acceptable to the people of Kosovo. Additionally, there will be no return of Kosovo to the pre-1999 situation, no partition of Kosovo and no union of Kosovo with any other, or part of another, country."

What the debate is about and what the current Serbian government are pushing for at this point and given the situation is unimportant. Of course what happened between Greece and Turkey is not going to happen again here. But it would be the right way to go about it rather than strip Serbia of what is rightfully theirs.zeidmaan wrote:
So the debate is not whether Kosovo should be a part of Serbia like any other. The Serbian goverment is not trying to push the idea of transfering the Kosovo Albanians to Ambania or Algania as Poe would say. For one they know they would never get suport for that idea and also that would be the first step in dissembling the Serb Republic in Bosnia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republika_Srpska (< take few minutes to read that)
They are offering Kosovo an autonomy withing Serbia. And that does seem like the best and fairest possible solution right ? But the international community tried that experiment in Bosnia with the creation of Serb Republic and it just doesn't work.

I too am a Republican that voted for Bush in both elections. Like the OP I didn't vote for him in either primary. If though I wouldn't vote for him now I still think he's better than ANY democrat.
Take a look at Bush Approval Rating over the years

Woosh...I live in California. I actually hate Bush now...I gave him a Poor on the last Heritage Foundation survey I sent in.

Sorry, it is comparable.zeidmaan wrote:
There is absolutely no way you can compare bunch of illegal Mexican immigrants in Texas with situation in Kosovo. Countless wars, countless genocides, countless mass deportations, countless conquerers, and a sick amount of propaganda stretching for hundreds of years that would make Fidel Castro drop his jaw, CAN NOT be compared with Mexicans in California or Texas. There are folk tales and songs on both sides that talk about mass murders, burning of villages and towns and that promote hatred towards the other side. This is true for every nation in the region. Balkan is a barrel of gunpowder.
Maybe in 500 hundred years you will be able to compare the two, but not today.
But anyway current stance of USA presidency (not just Bush) and as far as I know most European countries is not based on historical territorial rights, but the fact that with all that history and the "fresh wounds" from the recent war, independence for Kosovo seems like the only solution. It can not remain under UN administration forever.
The American SW border is a barrel of gunpowder.
Well even if he is a terrible president, he is better than the alternative.
Perhaps, Bush can resign and become President of Albania. Cheney could become V.P. of Albania.Kmarion wrote:

Then, we could hold an early election here to replace them and spare us the turmoil that the next year and a half is likely to be.
I suspect that if Bush keeps on this path of demonizing his base, that Bill Clinton won't be the only president in history to be impeached.
If I'm not mistaken, Buchanan was also impeached.Harmor wrote:

That he was, and Nixon surely would have. I doubt Bush will ever be impeached though. even though he did "bend" some laws, the Democrats simply are not organized enough to pull it off.Turquoise wrote:
