So I upgraded my computer recently and re-built my old one so I have a couple of gaming computers that are capable of BF2.  I gave the old one to my brother and he suggested we play BF2 together.  So here are my questions:

1.  (and most importantly)  Can BF2 ranked servers support more than one instance of the same IP address on the same server?  Me and my brother are behind a router on the same line so from the outside it appears to have the same IP.  I can't really do anything about the other questions if this question turns up no.

2.  Can I use the same CD key for both systems?  I don't really want to go online and buy another copy of BF2, then wait a week for the guy to send it, then another week for USPS to deliver it.  Or, if I can't use the same key, is there a way to buy another key from EA without the disks?  I'm using an image for the older machine, so I don't need more disks.

Any insight you guys can provide would be well appreciated.

I see you have SF, correct?

In that case yes, you can play BF2 with the 2 comps at the same time. Use the BF2 disc to start up one, and SF to start the other instance. Both can be used as "game discs" for BF2.

The IP address isn't the same for the other PC, even if they are connected to the same router.

So, you can't use the same CD-key, but you can use the SF-disc for BF2.
I need around tree fiddy.

You need two different CD keys to play online together, you can play LAN against each other, but not online..

And doesn't the router give the computers different IP addresses...

Like one would be

123.4.5.1

and the other would be like

123.4.5.2

At least thats how it is in my home network.

I don't think that matters.. its the CD keys that counts..

You can just start up BF2 with the CD, take it out, and start the other one up, you don't need the disk in to play once the game is started..

All the files are on your harddrive..

You cant play in the same server with the same CD key. IP is okay, but you cant play at the same time in one server. You can play in different servers, but if you have only one disk (Im assuming you do), then get a SF disk and play vanilla BF2. Works for me.

(Makes sense?)

Edit: Yea, ^ they got it, but you cant play in the same server. BF2 detects the SF disk, but you can play BF2 anyway, but uses the BF2 vanilla CD key.

Those would be the private IP addresses.  If I looked at your network, all your computers would have the same IP because I would technically be talking to the router, not each individual computer.

I bought SF online.  I have no SF CD.

Besides, I mentioned I have Daemon Tools running a BF2 image on the older machine.  I only need the one disk for the new machine.  From what you guys are telling me, I can use the same CD key on the older machine, but I cannot be on the same server.

So is it possible for me to buy a key from EA?  Or do I have to go to Ebay or something?

You can play on different servers at the same time with 1 CD-key.
You cannot play on the same server at the same time with the same CD-key.

Me and my brother used to play at the same time on different servers with 1 CD-key no problems. Couldn't play on the same server.

Once we got a second CD-key (from a user of this site who 'retired') we could play on the same server no problems.

I have no idea where you can get another CD-key, apart from the obvious: eBay, or just a physical game shop?

So until I go into Circuit City or something I should just watch carefully for forum posts that say "BF2 is teh suck - I'm done!"

You haven't seen one recently have you?

From Personal Experience:
You can not play in the same server with the same key. You can however play on different servers. You also won't lag at all given that we had 512kbps at the time.

The older computer is wireless on a $15 Motorola adapter o_0

So lag might happen, regardless that I have a FiOS connection.

There are plenty of CD key sellers online. I have a few BF2 CD keys on hand I could sell to you if you ever needed one.

The router connects both PCs to the modem, and they both recieve the information. I'm pretty sure the IP resides in the modem, there for the PCs are connected through the IP address, that's why you will get latency...I plan to network my Computer through a wireless adapter and just ethernet my Xbox 360 to the router in my room.

You get a different internal IP, but you are connected to the internet from the same IP.

Well Ive done a search and this post is the closest I can find to answering my question:

Like the original OP I recently pieced together another PC that can play BF2. Before this my Brother and I shared this PC while playing BF2 using separate accounts on the same PC.  Now with the newly upgraded PC, I purchased another copy of BF2 so my wife could play with me.

My question is:  Can My brother and I use our accounts on the new PC with the new copy of the game? Even though its a totally different CD key on that PC?

Or you could just use a BF2 CD crack...
