Yes, title say it all. I´m looking forward to buy a laptop. I dont want to play with it. It needs at least 2048MB RAM and a good CPU!

I´ll mostly use this laptop plugged, so I dont care too much about battery. The RAM and CPU should be uptodate because I´ll use that thing to record some guitartracks, midifiles, etc etc. (dont worry about the soundcard, this shouldnt be a problem at all).

I´m not too familar with laptops, so any suggestions? What should I look for? Which CPU, which features?

I was already thinking about a MAC Book, but honestly, I dont have any clue if it cames to Apple.

Indeed IBMs are built like tanks, great if you're going to be carrying it around a lot. Much as I despise them Dell laptops arn't bad (much better than their desktops anyway), I'd still go with an IBM though just through principle lol.

If it's not for gaming, make sure it still has a low end dedicated graphics card, otherwise it'll be some shitty thing that eats your system RAM and generally degrades the performance of everything.

Always go for the best quality screen too, it's usually only £15 more or so and makes them a lot nicer to use.

IBMs only come with C2Ds afaik so CPUs are a no brainer, just get the best you can afford.

certainly a nvidia card they have a better power/efficiency rate-----> dont flat your batteries as much

Well, as you're not going to be gaming, you'll probably want something with a battery lasting very long. Should it therefore be rather small and lightweight or with a big display and yet light and versatile?

the power/battery thingy doesnt count too much, as I´m planing to use this thing mostly plugged.

The laptop would mainly be used to record guitartracks, and midifiles with a tool called Riffworks. Dont worry about the requierements of this tool, it even runs propperly on an old P4 with 512MB.

It's nice, but use it like a laptop and it'll last less than 3 months. Not to mention that folded up, it's the size of a briefcase.

I'd have to agree about the Thinkpads, they're pretty solid. My girlfriend has one that's about 5 years old, and it's still works very good, even after milk was spilled on it.
