Aren't you all forgetting the other two armies in this game, MEC and PLA. Now i know MEC isn't real, but the PLA is, as such, do we know if EA are using the USMC officer ranks, the PLA ranks, or a mixture?

Now, i am kinda tipsy, so that may be total bullshit

I belive that the 5 star general rank is the president... i think. dont quote me on it. I agree with this completly, the gap between gunnery seargent and master/first is pretty big compared to the gaps inbetween the other lower ranks. And in my eyes, the gap between master/first and mastergun/sgmajor is practically unsermountable. I've been playing since august and i have about 25k points, some of you may say that i'm just a n00b or something, but i have a life outside bf2 and cant play all day. I think they should incorperate officer ranks and lower the point requirements for first seargent, seargent major, and 2nd lt. i also think that on the side there should be more than just point requirements, there should be some sort of ratio or set point minimum for combat/teamwork points. I dont think it's fair that Blazin.uk just goes around reviving people all the time and killing a couple people here and there (i've played with him) and he's the top ranking soldier. the fact that all he does is play medic on practically the same 2-3 maps all day every day is just pathetic, i think you should be able to obtain the higher ranks by using most or all aspects of the game instead of just one kit all the time.
I have to add that i agree about  blazin. I dont think you should hold the top spot when you are missing as many ribbons as he is.  No veteran command  badge??? com on there are people out there who have all veteran and even some with several expert badges.   He is so obviously just a stats padder.  The person who holds the top spot should be a  well rounded WARRIOR.  Just my opionion.

OK people, listen up.  SSgt Dobbs here from the USAF.  <--- dont like to mention that but need to let you know i know what im talking about.

Anyway, there are 5 services:  Army, Navy, Marines, Airforce, and the Coastguard.

Army, Navy, and the Airforce are pretty normal in this topic.

Marines, yes they are indeed a department of the Navy.  No they wont admit to that.  And yes they are still their own indepenant branch of the armed services.  No they dont have a 5 star rank because all marines battalions are attached to fleets and the fleet commander decides where to "storm the beachhead" with the advice from the Marine commander.  So in time of war: i.e. WWI, WWII.  The Navy will have the 5 stars (fleet admiral) not the marines.

Coastguard, yes they are too their own seperate branch of the armed services.  Only thing special about them is that they fall under the Department of Transportation not the Department of Defense.  Many ppl dont know that but its true.  They are still a war fighting force but like the dude said above they are tasked with homeland security and policing our boarders.  Thats it.

Hope that helped.

Sorry sarge.  The United States Coast Guard used to be part of the Department of Transportation but now is part of the Department of Homeland Security.

the bf2 rank curve is so fucked. 1-50k, then 200k.... what the hell kind of progression is that? would you play an RPG that made you gring XP for a whole year to gain one level?

we don't need more ranks, we need better distributed ranks.
Well as of now, 2nd Lt is the last achivable rank. There are other Officer icons in the game files, but due to time constraints they didn't finish it, and they took out 2nd Lt and added it, thinking no one would reach that high in so short of time..

Heres a shot of them, as you can see they dont have a 'larger' display view, just the in-game ones next to the name. Though its funny they left out 2nd Lt, Captains, Majors and Lt. Colonels.
I just noticed, its kinda funny the last two ranks are the ea log and the dice logo.....

The Marine Corps is no longer a department of the Navy, that is why we have our own seat  in the joint cheifs.  That is also why we can have a Marine General as the Chairman of the Joint Cheifs.  We do not have a five star general rank due to the fact that we were a department of the navy and our generals were never given a position of command like Eisenhower or McArthur ( i used these two as examples because the were real damn good commanders).  The Marine Corps was not directed by the Navy to storm the beach heads...The actual commanders of troops on the ground were all Army generals during WWII.  Yes, we did listen to Fleet Commanders, when a part of the fleet.  Someone said that the pentegon has five sides for all of the branches...the Marines are actually headquarterd elsewhere...we have not been given what some would say the "honor" of being headquartered in the pentegon.

That is what Marine stands for.  The official Marine seal says Department of Navy.  You guys can argue the rest.

The main reason for the marines being a dept of the navy is becuase of serten MOS's(Marine Pilots fly off Carriers, MPs are stationed on all ships and naval bases, Plus almost all combat MOS's are attacted to a Naval group,  considering the navy acts as a U-Haul for the Marines.  It will remain a dept in the navy.

Marines take advantge of this, and thats why the are frist to know, first to go.
