its a bad lightmaps or something, so the sun glare comes from the ground
I have exactly the same problem when flying on Highway Tampa! It's annoying as hell.

That's how the sun looks at sundown of course.
in bf2 you have a stationary sun in the sky and then you got a flare effect but this flare effect can be offset by a huge amount so that it might actually appear on ground if you look at it a certain way. fx in kashan desert in PR you got an offset flare effect on the sun just to a much smaller extent.
Start of a nuclear explosion. Didnt you know... they added the nuke to a planes arsenal to make it more fair for them...
