I'm noticing more and more often 'interesting' articles on Al Jazeera.  I find news that I wouldn't normally find on that network that I wouldn't find on other networks.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm a conservative and I love Fox News (best news network - God Bless Murdoch), but some of the articles on Al Jazeera are well...interesting from a different point of view.

I don't mean MSNBC kind of different view, but an actual different view point from all the Alphabet news outlets.

My hesitation with Al Jazeera is their willingless to be a mouthpiece to terrorists - need only point out all the Bin Ladin tapes aired on their network.

Someone set me straight.

the BBC is the FOX of liberals.  Al Jazeera is simply an arab language news station that covers middle east news, which, unfortunately, usually involves explosions and beheadings.

The only reason Al Jazeera gets a bad rep is because CNN, FOX and CBS reported that Osama and pals sent their videos to Al Jazeera before AJ began reporting in English.

Wasn't it also Al Jazeera that aired a video during Gulf War II that showed a crowd of Iraqis dragging American soldiers' bodies through the streets?

I watch as many news stations as I can whenever I get the chance and I would say that Al Jazeera isn't biased enough in the opposite direction to be the liberal person's FOX news. FOX news is horribly biased in so many explicit ways that I don't think any liberal biased news network comes close to.

AJ at least doesn't drown out real news with BS about Paris Hilton and dogs who rescue their owners.

I have no way to watch it, so I wouldn't be able to say, but I don't think any news station can match FOX News in terms of bias. (Both sides as well)

Actually, the BBC is as close to an unbiased network that you can find. They are publicly funded, and thus have a strict ethos of being truth and only truth.

<sarcasm>
Fox is just so ... spun, that everything else looks super liberal.
</sarcasm>

Al J is just ... not sure what to call them, as Conservative/Liberal is a U.S. thing. But at times, they seem to be contradictory, a professional band of rag-tag reporters, who promote Islam and at yet seem to hide the darker side of said Islam, even while denouncing the same thing the "evil"  Americans do.

I'd call them neither Conservative, nor Liberal. Just Arab.

nah, the Associated press is the most unbiased, but not really a news station I suppose.

Well, news is a for profit business...

Even on a public network, somebody's getting paid

edit: I agree with your assesment of Al Jazeera though , just kinda arab.

Al Jazeera's English language news is actually quite unbiased and fair.

As brought up, the Conservative v. Liberal angle that many see in American media seems relative to the rest of the world. It differs, not only to Europe, but also to Canada as well. To Canadians, CNN and other 'liberal' stations are viewed as fairly centrist, just as the Democrats fare from centre-left to centre-right to us.

Overall, my personal belief is that media bias is often accused too much, particularly when the media strives as a business to sell papers firstly before any bias. Bias is also relative to worldwide opinions, so the media of European or Arabic nations may not apply as easily as native media organizations do in the States.

NPR is also publicly funded, by Congress actually, though it has a well know liberal bias.

Al Jazeera is actually one of the best networks to watch if you are interested in critically thinking about an issue in the Middle East.  They have a very good reputation for showing both sides of an issue and remaining unbiased in their reporting.

Watch the movie Control Room to see what I mean.

but what do you expect its U.S., there could be a war going on in our country(on our soil) and we would still be discussing what Paris Hilton wore.

I was always under the impression that Al Jazeera got their bad name because they somehow managed to beat CNN & co. to juicy stuff concerning the ME.

btw doesn't Murdoch own part of Al Jazeera as well? Or am I mistaken? Not sure but that's what I heard...

I only get to see AJ and Fox when visiting my parents and AJ is surprisingly unbiased. If your interested in the middle east situation its the best for coverage. Fox news gives me a sore head after about 5min's, too many flashing lights and ticker tapes and music.

I would love to watch all the news channels regularly but I cannot receive Digital signal because I'm behind a mountain and I sure as fuck am not putting money in Murdock Sky's pocket. Would be kind of like paying for Fox to spin its bullshit.

In These Times
"In an interview on NPR, Secretary of State Colin Powell also complained, “Al Jazeera has an editorial line and a way presenting news that appeals to the Arab public. They … magnify the minor successes of the regime. And they tend to portray our efforts in a negative light.”
So whatever doesn't portray the USA's efforts in a positive light is biased. That makes perfect sense to me.

http://www.thecrimson.com/article.aspx?ref=503838
The Harvard Crimson
"The place to look to uncover bias will always be off camera. In Al-Jazeera’s case, you’ll find that literally all of the station’s top executives—the people who draw its editorial line, produce its documentary pieces and run its day-to-day operations—have a larger than normal bone to pick with Israel and its closest ally, the United States. That’s at least in part because nearly all of upper management at Al-Jazeera is Palestinian or Jordanian (which is usually code for “Palestinian refugee living in Jordan”)."
And what is wrong with the Palestinian side of the story? Well, its a little different than the Israeli side that the west is used to hearing... so it must be biased... Who ever heard of a major news channel hiring Palestinians anyway? Of course there's lots of Israelis everywhere but they only tell the truth. Right?
