So many blue screens.  "memory management" "driver_irlq_less_than_or_equal"  Idk there are more..

But now I've run the memory diagnosis thing... and it says error at 0xc0000023..

and in the "system boot log diagnosis" it says

Boot manager generic filaure (spelled like that)
0xc000000d
then repeats 0xc0000023 a couple more times.

it also said my registry is corrupt.  However whenever I try to repair it, it says "please remove any cameras or other media devices inserted"

I don't have any "media devices inserted"..

microsoft works is an oxymoron, and now you know why...
I would never buy any microsoft anything that is under 3 years old.

I know.  But my hard drive died... and an opportunity arose allowing me to buy windows vista ultimate for $49.  Looking back, probably should have tried to find XP again.  Regardless, it was working fine before.  Helpz would be appreciated.

You may have to clear your hard drive
and break out the recovery disks.
Vista for $49 sounds fishy too, that's probably your problem.
If possible, you should go back to your old OS, and try to save any non-corrupted files.

I have an uncle who works at Microsoft.

I'm thinking the least desirable route would be to buy a new Hard drive, install Vista on that and then transfer music.. etc from my old hdd.

I'm not going to fuck with recovery disks if I don't have to lol...

Take it to your uncle, he knows the program best.
how far does your computer boot before the error comes up?
Is it immediately, or can you try to backup your music/documents?
If you can, back up any files that work, (I use the extra space on my I-pod to hold files) then try to get it fixed.

I still think your discount vista isn't entirely honest, and that's likely your problem.
Microsoft does not like their programs being pirated, and has safeguards in place to screw up badly done copies.

lol, he bought it from the company store, why the hell would that be pirated?

And no, it works, I'm on it right now... I just get random spurts of blue screens.

I had those issues too.  Try getting new RAM.  Fixed my problems.

yeah, if the program is good, then its a hardware issue.  new/more ram will help, vista is a RAM hog

ctrl+alt+del to see what programs are sucking up your memory/cpu space, and close the ones that are really drawing. (not the ones that are operated by SYSTEM though...)

Like all components, RAM can wear-out. It would be worth a thorough memtest just to be sure.

I get exactly the same errors, and I think we have the exact same ram (4 gigs of Patriot?).

If your using 64bit, that might be your problem, I might be wrong but memtest86 is for 32bit

Correct. But with upto 4GB RAM, it will (afaiaa) test the full 4GB. Of course, that doesn't mean that other aspects of 64bitedness aren't making it blue screen.

Are you on x64 ?

I don't remember getting those errors on the 32 bits version...

I was running Vista Ultimate on my primary machine through MSDN. I have since removed it due to the fact that i completely fucking hated it and was finished testing with it.

I had some strange memory behavior on vista as well but only on Ultimate. I found that my motherboard was assigning 1.9v to the memory which is completely within spec but after talking to the folks at Gskill they recommended that I up the RAM voltage to 2.0 which is also within spec for their memory..

It did the trick that POS operating system didn't give me anymore strange bluescreens or memory errors for the duration that I needed to use it.

you must be running the Patriot EP stuff or DDR2 1000+ ??

if not ^^ was the 2.2v setting the default or are you running that to lower clocks ie 4-4-4-12 ?? if so that might be part of the problem. which model memory and motherboard.. Vista Ultimate seems VERY particular with some memory configurations

agwood, if he ran memtest and it was fine then changing the voltage will make no difference.

Vista doesn't like 4GB yet. Take 1GB out Chipmunk. Do it. Also, you hsould have stuck with 32-bit until SP1 comes out.
