Alan Johnston: What happens next.

So today kidnapped BBC journalist Alan Johnston was paraded on Al Jazeera with, what he says is, an explosive belt on. He says the captors will detonate it if he is to be taken by force.

So what does this mean?

Are the Intelligence services close to finding him?
Are the bastards regretting their descision?

And the question that must be asked is:

Will they go further in provoking the West by killing Mr. Johnston.

Discuss it here, please, and hope that he is returned safely.

In the current stage, I'd say they'll probably kill him, pessimistic yeah, but that's what happens quite a few times over there.

From what I have seen, the mortality rate of thsoe captured in the Middle East is very low. Mr Johnston may become the next Ken Bigley.

I seem to remember Ken Bigley saying he was bieng treated well.

A month later he was beheaded and the fuckers didn't care to return the body. As you say it is indeed a political statement. However by capturing a journalist of a side not directly involved in the war (My view is that Britain is involved by proxy) they are provoking the West to force their hand, resultng in another dead end conflict in the East.

The coverage by the BBC and response by Hamas gives the impression that Hamas is relatively moderate. If Alan Johnston gets out it will be interesting to see the line of reporting by the BBC in Gaza.

No by the fact that in Hamas statements they backed off.

What I am getting at is the point that the Alan Johnston hostage crisis is a great publicity opportunity for Hamas to appeal through the BBC to "western society".
