I've always gotten out of the gunners seat when asked nicely to do so, and usually gotten back some" thanks" and "I owe you one" in return when the pilots buddy hopped in.  No problemo!

Now then, just started a Wake game and spawn on the carrier to find the Blackhawk flying away, but there is the attack chopper with a pilot in it so I hop in with him.  He doesn't go anywhere. 30 seconds goes by and he's just kinda bouncing the chopper up and down on the deck. So after about a minute total another guy spawns on the carrier and starts jumping up and down next to the chopper and the pilot starts with the "bail out" shit.    What are you kidding me? Your gonna let me sit in the chopper and not say a damn thing about how you'd like your buddy to be your gunner as soon as he's done taking a shit or whatever the hell he was doing?

I got out anyhow as I won't fly with someone that doesn't want me there but what an asshead!  I have much more experience gunning than piloting  but if your waiting for your buddy to finish his cheese sandwich get the fuck out and the two of you wait for the next one.  Trust me it won't be long till I crash that one.  Instead I had to run down stairs get a boat and get my ass waxed 100 meters off the shore by a jet.

What I wanted to do was use the carrier AA and tear the ass-end of that chopper to shreads as it flew off. Wish I'd remembered that douche's name.  Okay....I'm done crying now...where's my paci?

Next EA add on pack!!!! Airborne Assault!

4 Little birds
4 Attack choppers
6 Transports
4 attack jets
2 bombers

PER SIDE!!!!

no other vehicles and only 2 flags per side

There, that would solve the problem

I remember this one time i got in this guys heli.

He told me to bail out a few times then made the mistake of getting out to snipe me out. I always have my finger on F1 (incase of pilot getting shot out) so i switched to pilot and some other guy on the carrier got in as gunner.

He didn't end up tking anyone, it was hilarious, justice was served

My philosophy:

There needs to be voice communication between pilot and co-pilot for the chopper to be effective nine out of ten times. Rarely I have encountered gunners or pilots in sync with me and see everything I see.
I agree with this, there should be a vehicle voip channel.  Haven't played many other games, but operation flashpoint has a vehicle channel, so you are only talking to those in the same vehicle as you, BF2 would definately benefit from this

If you're so worried about your stats that you're willing to deny another player a chance to enjoy a game that he purchased to its' full extent, then just don't play on ranked servers and play on your own private passworded server. Then you'll never have a bad gunner.
If I'm first to the gunner seat and want to gun, then I'm damn well going to gun.
You get plenty of good pilots, but in my experience, 90% are total jackasses. No bad gunner is going to improve flying with a bad pilot.
When I was first starting out with this game, I was gunner with the best pilot I've ever seen, even to this day. He was better than anyone in any of the videos I've seen on these forums so far, wish I could remember his name.
At the time, I was a private, not even first class, with about 10 hours play time. But he didn't complain about me gunning, we just took off.
Not once in the entire round did we die, and he was so effective with his missiles that he nearly always killed all the enemies before I could. That round I mainly got kill assists, but I was happy with it, for flying with such a good pilot.
The point being, if you're as good a pilot as you think you are, having a bad gunner means fuck all, you should be able to make up for it. The chopper pilot has missiles with way more splash damage than the gunners' cannon.

Personally, I ALSO jump out if I'm asked AND if I was SECOND in the chopper. But if I'M the pilot, and YOU'RE the gunner and you say "I will only fly with my buddy", then YOU get the h**l out of MY chopper and I'll find someone else who wants the easy gunner points, you can wait till hell freezes over for the next chopper, or I run into a jet that can handle my evasive maneuvers, whichever comes first.

Sorry for the harsh words, but that is kinda like someone jumping into the tower of the tank and demanding to get to drive ! That's NOT going to happen, so why would the same be true for a chopper ?

If you get in first and then choose to be gunner, then you've better be DAMNED certain that you get a good pilot, and someone who WANTS you there, because there's a lot of bad ones out there, and MANY of them will fly like they're in a jet and try to get everything with the hellfires and not even bother to think of their gunner, so never EVER get in the chopper EXPECTING to be the gunner with someone you don't know. And if you do, then remember that it's the pilot who decides if he wants to crash the chopper because he doesn't want you there.... Overall, never go for the chopper if you don't want to fly it every bit as badly as you want to gun it.

I have yet to see any servers that have formalized rules for who gets to be pilot and gunner except for "waiting in line" (which is hard to do when the enemy jets come flying by and bomb the s**t out of the people waiting in line). So the dude that said he "picks" his co-pilot is in essence wrong, I pretty much doubt that any server has these rules, and if you find one that does and you don't like it, then don't play there. But on the other hand, there's no sense in flying with someone who doesn't want you there. Personally I'd rather bail out and let someone else have the seat than have the pilot crash the chopper wasting precious resources because he's a moron.

The argument can be made that the pilot ALSO payed for his game, same as the gunner, so why should EITHER of them get preferential treatment ? But we all know this isn't the case.

When it comes right down to it, I may not be much of a pilot, or even a gunner, but from what I have observed over the last year of playing BF2, I'm still a LOT better than most, so yeah, I will still go for the chopper once in a while, but if I can't get decent teamwork going with my pilot or gunner (whichever), then I'd rather not try, it's a waste of resources to do badly with the attack helo, as this can easily be the most powerful weapon on the entire battlefield.

Happens alot pilots asking you to get out of the gunners seat, I've got out once, I'd been the gunner for pilot in the round before and he was good, and in this round his clan mate had popped in(Dalian Plant), I jumped out to let his clan mate have a pop at it.
To me if your the gunner as long as you try to use missiles etc then Im not to bothered, its when you get the gun firing at armour you know your in trouble.
Yeah but arrogant pilots asking you to get out id annoying, and when they fly you out of bounds, they need to grow some balls, not only are you TK'ing but your taking 2 players and on helo out the battle why you play your little game, ultimate idiots!!!.

So, I was the 2nd in an attack helicopter when this knob starts shooting me to get out. When he blew up the chopper and I called him an ass, he stated that Pilots pick their own Co-Pilots. Is this true? If it is then I think its an assanine rule.
S!
If there's two experience people in the game (captains, colonols, et cetera) with the same clan tag, then they are more than likely on teamspeak and are really good players.  They deserve the chopper.  If I see two guys with the same clan tag waiting on the heli pad, then I let them have it.  Unless of course they're crashing it into trees and the like. Long story short, if you see someone with a higher rank than you waiting for a vehicle, let him have it.  The odds are in his favor that he is a lot better than you.

I was on this one server where these two guys, no clan tags or anything, kept getting the chopper and would be killed a minute or so later. I stopped trying to get it because they were always there and I didn't want to have to deal with it. So, after about 10 minutes, I die and respawn on carrier (oh, on Wake) and decide I want to do some tv missiling. Lo and behold, the two losers are there waiting to take the chopper. I walk up and wait with them and get a shotgun shell to the face. I punish and call him a faggot. They fly off and die again. I wait, patiently. They respawn and run over... obviously. This time though, they don't tk me. We're all there waiting for the spawn and finally it comes. I'm constantly hitting E and I get in with one of them.

Next thing I hear is gun fire and "BAIL OUT! BAIL OUT! BAIL OUT! BAIL OUT! BAIL OUT! BAIL OUT!" over and over and over. I keep firing back "Negative!" and finally they call me obsinities left and right and I just ignore it. We take off finally and he heads to one of the peninsulas and won't bring up the nose. He starts hovering and, I can't remember which, we get tv missiled or a tank shell takes us out. Now, I'm pissed.

Obviously he didn't do it on purpose, it's just what he and his butt buddy had been doing the whole time. We respawn and I get the pilots seat this time. The best part about it, is that the others don't get in because they want to fly/gun together. So, I get the chopper to myself and after a bit I die and I don't even bother to go back. I just groundpound and finish out the round, or I probably got kicked for cussing.
