I hardly classify this as Junk Drawer material since it is such a serious issue that affects so many.

Today, Tuesday 26th of June thousands of internet radio stations united in a day of silence in protest over the ridiculously high new royalty rates being imposed on internet radio stations.
The new rates do not take into account the revenue models of net radio organisations but subject them to the same terms as commercial stations. These ridiculously high new rates which are more than triple than the previous rates and extend back to the beginning of 2006 are simply not within the financial reach of 90% of webcasters.
If this bill goes through almost all internet radio stations inside the US and about half those outside will close.
If it comes to pass then this day of silence will be for more than just a day...

The deadline for congress to repeal this bill is July 15th.

Then I guess you don't have much to lose...

I don't drive, does not mean I would want to see motorsports banned.
Food for thought...

It's not about whether you listen to it or not, it's the principle of the matter. If this is allowed to go through, then slowly we'll start being restricted in what we can do.
