What does that have to do with US help?
The paradox is only a conflict between reality and your feeling what reality ought to be.

Comparing Indonesias efforts to the US's is like comparing apples with oranges; they're completely different.
The infiltration option isn't as available to the US, as the US is mostly white and most of the terrorists aren't. Indonesia doesn't have much of a racial barrier to speak of.

They didn't catch them by infiltration. They did it with police work (assisted by us, I might add). You gathering evidence, interviewing suspects, shit like that.
One of the articles talks about Indoneisan counter-terrorist groiups working with US and Australian help, look at the second page of articles.Spark wrote:

They do and they don't mention anything about the violence you speak of. I'm not denying it happens, just that it must not effect them enough to mention it to me. Like me they grew up in Northern Ireland and like me we grew up living with terrorism, so maybe they are desensitised to it. They are off to Korea in 6weeks to teach, maybe not a bad thing by the sounds of things.DeathBecomesYu wrote:

No, it isn't. You didn't help. They made use of US satellites. Big whoop. Just about everyone who uses a satellite uses US satellites. Fact is, we don't even know if they were government satellites. Even if they were, allowing as to use a satellite every once in a while hardly matches up to us going to war for you all the fucking time.
Torture and threats as well...........Bubbalo wrote:

No, there was a very clear, well defined trail. They didn't torture any of them because Australian officers were involved and they knew that if the media got hold they'd have a field day. That and the fact that (funnily enough) Indonesians tend not to torture Indonesians. They tend to torture other people (like Timorese) but that's a whole separate issue.DeathBecomesYu wrote:

Last I knew the US hasn't been attacked since 9-11 ( against civilians at home ) so why do you say that Indonesia is more successful? I would say the US is, they got the Muslims killing each other on their own soil.Spark wrote:
It seems Indonesia has been having much more success against it's own terrorists problems than anyone else has.
So far, they've managed to capture:
- Hanbali
- Dujana (the new head of JI)
- a few others, can't recall. I think they got Noordin Top, can't remember.
- restricted the activities of its spiritual head, Bashir.
So for two or so years now, Indonesia has thankfully had a respite from the terrorist attacks which plagued it during the first few years of this century.
What have they been doing which has allowed them such success? Is it the fact that, unlike America, they are fighting terrorists in their own backyard, and not half a world away?
Is this your lame attempt at bashing the US? Sorry, but the US isn't the problem. Islam is the problem, and the #1 problem in the world today.
Calm down dear its only a forum. Besides, I know I didn't help, I'm 17 and nobody went to war for me as far as remember, or is that what Iraq was all about? Zomg, we found the answer, the Iraq war was for me, dun dun duhhh. Besides what nationality do you actually think I am?Bubbalo wrote:

Also that's what I was getting at Lotta_Drool.

Zomg lolz
Nope I'm half American and half English, shocker.
Also assuming I'm from the US and that I'm stupid because I am supportive of US efforts is a generalization is it not?

Angry and ignorant is no way to go through life.
Yes, because if totally only ever spoken to American's who've supported militarism
I assume you're American because you go out of your way to find some way to attribute some part of the glory to the US. There's a difference between supporting someone and trying to get them constant praise and admiration.

You seriously believe that they don't use tactics such as torture? I'm not talking about one particular case but its well known in Indonesia of how the police and army operates. As I have said before, I have family living there and its well known. Oh, I forgot, the U.S. is the ONLY country accused of torture...etc....LOL. Do you realize the history in Indonesia, police and army brutality is nothing new and is very common. I bet if you heard that U.S. had caught terrorists and they were on trial...you would be screaming torture!! But now you defend a country you know nothing about. Indonesia is basically an army run country. The army and its leaders wield a lot of power and they use it when they want to. I guarantee that methods that are not so proper are being used in their fight against terror.Bubbalo wrote:

I'm not going to say the likelihood of whom your descended from, I usually find Aussies to be nice friendly people, I have yet to see that from you.Bubbalo wrote:

Only one convict, actually. I'm plenty friendly when people aren't trying to bask in other people's glory.M.O.A.B wrote:
