Fairplay to the European Commission today who prohibited Ryanair from buying a majority stake in the Irish national carrier Aer Lingus. Had they succeeded they would have had a monopoly on 35 air routes out of Dublin. Government/EU intervention FTW!

Lol the EU isnt the only ones to do that. The US learend from its monopoly mistakes of the 1900s-1920s. In fact i think AMD is sueing Intel for monopolization.

Ryan air are absolutely the filthiest carrier I have ever flown with. There was sick on my fuckin seat. Never mind the rest of the plane. And O'Lerry tho a brilliant business man, comes across as a total money grabbing scum bag who would walk over his employees and passengers to squeeze a few extra pence of profit.
I would fly with them if they payed me. Not a good representation of Ireland on the global stage at all. I'm glad they got a spankin.

Monopolies are bad for the consumers so good for the EU.

However I dislike Aer Lingus as once they (indirectly) sent my baggage to Tel Aviv.

Thats not an example of a monopoly, Amd just sucks and when they create something good they become cocky assholes, Then when intel beats them they cry monopoly.

Lol i know but heres a good one. My dad works for a terminal (credit card swiping machine) company. Their rival company bought a cable company that makes the transactions from the terminals to the credit card company. That saves the rival company 20-30 cents per transaction. The brought that cut into the market and are now underselling EVERY compan in the buisness of terminals and threaten to monopolized the industry. So know my dads compnay is suing them for monopoly.

Get a clue.  What AMD is sueing over has nothing to do with their current processors, and dates back several years.  Besides, do you really want to see what the market would be like without AMD?

Yeah, I thought not.

Lol, that's actually a fairly accurate explanation of it. Although I wouldn't say they were cocky assholes, just their fanboi's. They didn't do their profits any favours by forming DAAMIT either.

Yeah Intel did do some monopolistic practices... Getting major OEMS not to buy AMD cpus and paying them etc.

If this were a world without AMD we'd probably be having this discussion on fidonet, not the web.

Hmm, lets see if I remember...

The major problem with government intervention in monopolies is the government's inability to define a market.

Programmers would be a lot more skilled at writing efficient code, though.

Not that bad, AMD had nearly no market back then, it was in 2003 where they started getting fame.

The only true "free market" is one where the government consistently ensures that competition is fierce.
