It's summer for me now, and I don't have much planned in the next few days. I have quite an extensive knowledge into computer parts and systems.. my question is though - what guide do YOU want? I'll be writing some guides in the future, such as:

- Hard Drives;
- Solid reasons to go with Core 2 Duo;
- What you should do before purchasing a component.

.. but this is in no way me completed! I'm interested in what guide you want to see!

Thanks,
kyle.

SUGGESTIONS:

RAM Guide (cyborgninjaaaar)

Maybe like a few lists of components for various price ranges, like "for under $500 you could have a computer with this stuff in it" ect

This is the only guide i'll ever need though: http://members.aol.com/spoons1000/break/

I'd like to see a guide on Hard Drives, partly because the General Buying Guide doesn't have too much info on it. Would it be possible (if you do decide to write a guide on hard drives) to write a little section on SSD (Solid State Drives), I found out about them only a little while ago and if you could write something about them, it would be great. All I know is that they're generally faster than the standard hard drives and that they cost loads more. (For now at least)

How about a good, complete overclocking guide (including ram, gpu, cpu - everything)  I've searched far and wide for one of those and ive never found one with everything i need to know

That would be awesome!

I thought SSD drives were slower than magnetic ones - much, much faster access times, but very poor transfer rates. It depends though, volatile RAMdisks run VERY fast, but flash drives aren't so quick, not for transfers anyway.

That's because it can't really be made. It is simply done by trial and error. I can write a basic one but really, you just need to look at your specs and find people who have similar specs.

You could do an overclocking guide. Why not? There's a lot of theory behind it, that's what you write about - not a step by step, do this, then that. Try to get people to develop an understanding of what they are doing rather than telling them what to do.

I'll give you a hand if you want....

Well by looking at general guides i learned how to overclock my cpu but i dont have the slightest clue on how to overclock my gpu or ram

Btw i don't want to make a new topic so... i have an 8800gts 320mb and I'm thinking of getting a new graphics card since 320mb is not enough for 1680x1050 resolution.  Would it be better to sli them or just get an 8800gtx?  My guess is sli but the vram only adds up to 640mb while the gtx is 768 (or something like that).  Full specs are below

Edit:

yeah that'd be great, just a very basic guide to get people into the idea of OC'ing. A large number of people dont even have the slightest idea of how to do it

I'm not even sure, I just heard about them very recently. Most of what I've heard said that they had really fast boot/load times, but I really don't know much about them. Which is the reason a Hard Drive guide might be kind of useful.

The most common form of SSD you are probably very familiar with, those little USB sticks. As you've probably noticed, data transfer rates on them are slow.

Potentially they could be very fast, RAMdisks over a SATA2 interface filled with about 8GB of memory are VERY fast - but they require constant power, which is annoying - if you unplug the PC the drive is wiped.

SSD is not a very specific term.

What would you want in the Web Design one? I could do that for people. If I get enough people wanting a web design guide to be made of course.
