Wow. You add so little to D&ST it's mind-boggling. Why do you bother posting here? Seriously. I mean about 90% of your posts are either 'fail', 'meh', 'lose', 'qft', 'qfe' or other such drivel. What is the fucking point?
Yes because this is my job and I should bring me A-game.  Go hemp.

And I was not the one who wrote the sentance, that was someone else.  I was agreeing with him.  So fuck off.

You were agreeing with someone incorrectly. You agreed with him and added that comment simply because you disagree with me - not because you had witnessed me batter on about that phrase repeatedly for the past two years.

America sucks

edit: I actually like America, but I'll admit. I like watching the country fail. Stupid really cos I got family there, but I dunno. I'm either brainwashed just a little bit by our BritFag media, or I have that typical characteristic of wanting to see the Top Dog fall down.

Ya you have.  Maybe not always those exact words, but usually condescending towards the US.

You are right on many points here FEOS. Europe is indeed guilty of sticking it's nose where it has no business throughout history and Wolphoenix's assertion that 'most Americans' are full themselves is a sweeping generalisation but I would, however, question your assertion that 'the majority of the fighting and dying was done by the US'. The United States lost less than half a million compared with the Soviet Union, who lost over 23 MILLION. Russia get way less credit for the defeat of the Nazi's than they deserve imo.

Lets not forget America is what it is today because Europe was shitty. Unless you are Native American you are most likely of European descent, and not that long ago either. So before Europe goes and points the finger we should probably remember almost hundreds of years sucking at just about everything so bad your constituants left on a 3 month journey to an undeveloped land without rule or order, full of "savages" to start fresh.

That would seem logical to some people.

Here is why the US is hated by the world. Its everyone's fault.

Nations slam the US Foreign Policy (Which I agree, sucks), but at least we are doing shit

Example: 9/11. Hungry for blood, we went to war. We also do this to prove shit like that cannot and will not be tolerated.
Outside US Example: London subway bombing, Spanish train bombings. Treated like another murder case. No action outside of that.

America is overzealous in its approach to the world.

BUT, when we DON'T do something, we get yelled at. The US wants to stay out of Dafur, but people bitch about that one all the time, and we all know if we went there, those same people would bitch about us being there.

Bottom line:
The US is the arrogant jock of the world's High School. He isn't exactly smart, but his presence is felt around the world, and there is nothing the nerdy bitchy countries can do about it. You can thank Imperialism for that.

I'm English so I just thought I would give you a little insight into exactly how much of my time is spent thinking of the US.

I spend roughly the equivalent amount of time thinking about US as I do thinking about the EU or China. Not a lot. I can honestly say its not popped up in general conversation outside of comments on current affairs or with regards to the relative strength of the Dollar.
I think it would be a stretch to consider it an obsession.

However...

The US is a world economic leader and its fair to say they have had a large part in many important global events over the last couple of hundred years.

It is also reasonable to expect some criticisms of an interventionist foreign policy (US is not alone here by the way as many of the earlier comments on colonial misadventures attest) and as the US were the major driving force behind many of the current "situations" around the world its not surprising your the focus of much of the criticism. I would expect that if the UK had been better led we would have not been so eager to please in signing up to the coalition (many of the residents of the UK were against it by the way) and could have taken some of the heat out of certain situations (everything is easy with hindsight though!).

To be perfectly honest, I feel much closer to the US than I do much of Europe but I do get annoyed with certain attitudes I come across e.g. the #1 rhetoric, and the WWII BS (sorry guys, you did a sterling job when you joined in, but passing it off as America pwning the nazis singlehandedly is hard to stomach!). I have only ever seen these attitudes on-line though.... Internets, serious business.

Anyways...

I think Europe is great...I have truly enjoyed every day I have spent there and would love to go back.

I think many outside the US confuse our belief that "there is no better place than the US" with "the US is better than everywhere else". The two are not equivalent statements. Personally, I can't think of anywhere in the world that is a better place than the US. That's not to say that there aren't plenty of other places just as great as the US...just none better.

The distinction is nuanced, but the distinction is there.

Yes, the US has contributed quite a bit to the world in the relatively short time we've been around...but all that is built on European, African and Asian contributions beforehand. Being proud of those accomplishments is not wrong. I honestly don't understand why anyone would have a beef with someone being proud of where they are from and what their countrymen have accomplished.

I am not obsessed with the US. To the contrary, it seems it is the US who always bring attention to themselves through their actions in economic, political, and cultural issues.

Simple physics. Every action demands a re-action.

I'll gladly start ignoring the US, once they stop messing with other people's affairs. But that won't happen any time soon, I guess.

Seriously though, is it any wonder that the superpowers are being watched with more scrutiny than other nations ? The USA, Russia ( again ) and China, those are the nations that willl shape the future of our planet. Not Belgium, Lichtenstein, or Andorra. So what's the big surprise ?
