I just downloaded the world in conflict mod.

It took like 8 hours.

CRC error: The file C:\program files (x86)\sierra entertainment\world in conflict - BETA\wic.sdf doesn't match the file in the setup's .cab file. The medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted; contact your software vendor.

Help?

Geez dude. A 1.7GB installer? Holy crap. Took me 2-3 hours to get it. I guess these guys are to be congratulated. It's the first time my machine has choked on anything since I built it... Apparently caching 1.7GB from disk to RAM takes even a 10k rpm raptor a minute or three.

So it looks like I've now found a game that will force me to install another matching disk and go RAID 0 to cut access times in half, although I don't know that striped RAID will improve throughput (any one know?). And eventually it looks like I'll need to get MS Vista and a new video card as the DX10 effects on this game look phenomenal.

Post your thoughts after you get it running...

Just a note... I downloaded the installer from the primary source and the torrent file and both MD5 hashes matched each other... Install went fine and menus worked... I'll play the tutorial tomorrow, it's getting late. Good luck with your install. BTW, with the rig in my signature my average FPS was 41 on the benchmark they include @ 1024x768 rez and "custom" detail whatever that means.

that happens to me on some long downloads too, Try using Flashgot/Flashget to download it, should be able to keep everything together

Haha... how horrible would that be if he did the wipe & reinstall and it turned out to be a corrupt installation file? Man I'd be pissed.

On that note, CommieChipmunk, if you do have to download it again, you should try downloading the torrent. That was my second source and I was clearing 250-300kbps the entire time. Last I checked it has like 1200 seeds and 4000 peers. Just start it and go mow the yard or something and it'll be done when you are.

As for me, I'm up an hour before the kids will be so I can play through this a little bit. If it's as addictive as StarCraft was for me, BF2 will get a little dusty.

Well, the verdict for me is that it kicks serious ass. Too bad I suck so bad at it, lol. The 10 rounds or so I played today I averaged 300pts each when all but a few were above me, and most were 800+ earners :-/
