When I join server my voip does  works for a bit then it gets disable. My hard drive recently crapped out and I had to get a new one so everything is fresh. I don't have a sound card but before my old drive crapped out I was able to use VOIP for BF2 with no problems so I don't understand why it doesn't work now. I'm using SoundMax Digital Audio and I think its the latest version 5.12.0001.5240 Besides buying a sound card what can I do?

Side note:
Since I've started fresh I've been getting all my points:)

I'm having the same thing happen since I reloaded my computer.  I will try your fixes when I get home BadHQ.

ppossible the driver, special on notebooks or onboard sound systems its often a problem

reason: onboard and noteboko onboard "chips" arent real soundprozessors. in fakt the cpu have to do the hole work and in fact its more an softwaresolution. so its a heavy problem to use voiip in realtime because the soundsystems cannot have so much priority that the way from sound prozessor to cpu to rap to cpu to soundprozessor is fast enough

solution would be a creative soundcard (for nb also alivable) but NO USB solution (also software)
with that also your game perfomance increasy heavyly about 10-25 % more cpu power free.

let say on my old laptop with an x700 ati and 2gb ram i could not play bf2 in high resolution and also no voiip wiht the sb pcmcia card i had voiip and mostly high resolution on 1024x786 (on an pentium m system) was a really big surprise how much you can speed up the system with good components

second posibillity is youve a good soundcard but a relly cheap and pretty slow board (doenst matter which cpu) some boards are so slow that they have problems to hold the specifications for pci express realtime cards

i dont know why bf2 deactivate it automatically possible the driver do it. i dont think bf2 has an inbuilt check for the voiip latency

you can test it by teamspeak
go into the local test mode with the hightes sound decoder (sorry my english is hard to understand srry for that)
then look how long it takes to hear your own voice. normaly it shoudl be realtime there (or near realtime) but on the problem systems you can have up to 2 seconds latency
