I am soon to be the proud owner of a brand spanking new pc, components picked out and all. I was wondering how the Battlefield series goes on the widescreen type of monitor? I've searched the fourms and all I could really find on the subject was people requesting opinions on system specs for their new rigs.

Ive visited numerous sites regarding this, but im looking for a personal opinion, not just a 'review'.

Does the hud stretch too far? Do the models stretch. That sort of stuff....

If there has been a post like this, a link would be appreciated because I cant seem to find it.

I know to get the widescreen action going you have to edit the command line for BF2, but even after doing that, are they still fat and short?

there have been posts but i can't remember enough to fid one and link. But you can set up a custom resolution in your config file so you don't get much of a screen stretch effect.

Even with the custom rez, not much difference? Thanks for the fast replys.

Its quite easy and it works like a charm. you do not get a wider FOV and the HUD is somewhat out of round, but the models and world are displayed at the correct aspect ratio. nothing I hate worse than a 4:3 resolution displayed on a 16:10 monitor

just edit your shortcut to look like mine

"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200

with the X dimension being the width in pixels of your monitor and the Y dimension being the height. You can always lower the resolution if needed, but on a new system you should be able to run at the native res of your monitor which will give you the clearest sharpest picture.

for those that cannot run the native res of your monitor just make sure that you set a resolution 1. that your video card supports and 2. that is a16:10 ratio.

have fun

This is my source. Everything on the widescreen side looks allright, bar the HUD, but I guess its something one has to get used to

If you are playing on a HDTV type television, make sure that the resolution is of a 16:9 ratio and not 16:10 it will not make much of a difference but that small aspect ratio issue would drive me crazy.

so 27" lcd tv.. prob native res of 1366x768 so you could run 1366x768 - 1280x270 - 1024x576 and so on....

give it a shot you might not notice a difference, but it will be set correctly at that point.

so does it mean i change the "szx" & "szy" in "C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200 to 1366 and 768 instead?

Make sure your graphics card is good enough. I've got a widescreen laptop, and it's really bad setting games to widescreen because it lags so much.

I have a 32" screen which is usually on 16:9 mode for full screen display, but when I'm playing BF2 i re-adjust the monitor to 14:9 display so that there are black fields on each side of the picture, making the game more square. This prevents me from having short, fat people running around the streets in Karkand.
