i dont really know much about the performance of quad core vs dual core or anything about video cards so i figured i would get some opinions before buying my new system in a couple weeks. i mainly just play bf2 and surf the internet now, but i am looking forward to crysis when it comes out and i want whatever will be the best to run it. any info and pointers will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Don't get 8600gt, especially not two of them.
I suggest the same thing....the 8600GT is a waste, if you can't afford the 8800GTX then get a 8800GTS.petermassingale wrote:

But loubot is right, a 8800GTS 320MB OCéd is very nice too, and if you need more GPU power, you can always add another one.
the processor will be around $270 when it comes out in a week (i hope) and i dont want to pay more than like $400 for the vid card(s)
another thing, i would like for this system to last me at least 2 years so quad core is the way to go?
Well as a GTX is around 499€ over here in germany, I´d say go for 8800GTS 320MB (299-349€ atm)ig wrote:

I'd go with the q6600 aswell for future proofing although the e6850 is faster currently in most games.Sl4y3r wrote:

What resolution do you play at since it can change the video card you require?

i play at 1280x1024
Then a 320mb 8800GTS should be fine currently. Anything higher and I would recommend at least a 640Mb one.
Q6600 + 8800GTX
That gets my vote

Quicker, than the quad in most aps, and, the quad, although a quad, aint a real quad, its two dualies, so even when the multi core soft ware is released, it wont be any quicker in say Itunes, than the dual counterpart is. Though, it does give you the option of running, say, Alan wake, and teamspeak, while burning a dvd, if you want that then buy the quad.
I still say the dual core though, for now atleast

i dont do much multi-tasking so i think im leaning towards the 6850 for now. i can always get a quad core in a year or so if i really need it but for now it seems that the 6850 would be the best for me.
What he speaks is true, and this is the same case with nVidia's GeForce 7950GX2.Bell wrote:

talked to my rl buddy and looked at some more comparisons on other sites, im def goin with the e6850, thanks for all your help guys
its obvious that the q6600 and 8800gtx will perform the best.
Definately. Even two 8600's in SLi can not compare to the sheer powah of teh GTX!Sl4y3r wrote:
