After the shitstorm they've been kicking up they'd have to, or be laughed at. The real question is whether they push it, or just make a token military movement.Pubic wrote:
So, if ROC did the whole formal declaration of independence thing, does anyone think PRC would actually invade or just talk about it?

Yep. They were ousted when the PRC was brought on. The US had maintained that the RoC was China, despite the fact that it only maintained control over Taiwan, which sorta meant they had to give up Taiwan when the PRC was recognised.Commie Killer wrote:

Wait, wasn't the whole UN thing about Chiang Kai Shek quitting because China got a seat?Bubbalo wrote:

If Taiwan declared independece, it will be like Tibet, but with a shitload more people, technology and much better army.
I'm pretty sure they were kicked off, but I could be wrong (I certainly have been in the past).cyborg_ninja-117 wrote:

You do know Tibet lost?cyborg_ninja-117 wrote:

That's what I'm saying. We would get our ass raped, then our president will travel around the world meeting celebrities and begging for their help and build CIA training camps in Taiwan.Bubbalo wrote:

About the UN thing: I think Chiang quit the UN just coz the PRC got a seat.
Which is exactly what you just said...............
If Taiwan falls, the Pres won't be travelling anywhere. It'll be over.

Have you heard of the nuclear weapons program? I'm pretty sure some crack head general will detonate nukes in our own cities to destroy the Chinese. But it depends if Taiwan gets any help outside. Singapore and Japan might side with Taiwan, but we won't know till the time has come. The US will come defiantly. But an insurgency might follow after woulds.Bubbalo wrote:

Taiwan doesn't have nukes. Even if they do, and they use them, China still wins.
The US may not defend Taiwan: they have very carefully avoided declaring that they will defend Taiwan in an invasion.

Nobody helped Tibet. Nobody could (or, unfortunately, wanted to) So they just let them Invade and take it over. Now when you get important places like Kuwait (self explanatory) or Taiwan getting invaded, then everybody cares. Although Taiwan doesn't seem that important (Just like Tibet) so I'm not so sure if anyone would help if they were invaded.
That's my take on it.
That's my take on it.
Where was your computer made in again? Worlds computing industry would be fucked if Taiwan was to be invaded.Mekstizzle wrote:

No it wouldn't. They'd just build factories somewhere else.
You don't get it do you? Those firms would just be ignored and die. New ones would take their place. That's capitalism.
I never realised Bill Gates was from Taiwan....................
Taiwan was reclaimed for China in the Qing Dynasty by Zheng Cheng Gong. You can't expect a country to willingly give up its territory.
Uh..........no, it wasn't. It has a long history of existence and non-violence.Flecco wrote:

I know he did. My point is that Taiwan makes the parts, but most of the companies that matter aren't based their. They'd just go somewhere else.Flecco wrote:
Oh and Bubs, he means hardware components, mobos, RAM, GPUs, CPUs.... Not software. The worlds computing industry would struggle for a few months, possibly a year... Then it would recover.
It would probably be more expensive to move the factories though and still maintain the expertise required for the work at a lower cost.Bubbalo wrote:
