in light of the crysis & cod4 release dates, here is my spec:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2GHz
2Gb ram
radeon x1800 gto 256mb pcie
450W PSU
XP 64 bit
ati A8R-MVP xfire motherboard

i have a couple of options buy another x1800 gto & use the xfire element or buy the latest ati xfire compatible card & double it up this time next year. i prefer the second option, what card & PSU would you suggest?

cheers

Just get a 8800GTS, about the same price as two decent ATi cards.

Your PSU should be able to handle it, you may want to upgrade on the CPU front though.

It works fine with Nvidia cards, don't worry.

ok it's just that when i rebuilt the pc last summer i initially bought a gygabyte SLI board & found it woudn't work with an ati xfire gfx card (doh!) but would with nvidia card, so i got the ati board.

i assumed this compatibility issue not only related to SLI cards/boards but also to xfire cards/boards.

If tou tried to use two ATi cards in the SLi board then thats where your problem was.

You have to remember now aswel that two Nvidia cards wont work in SLi in that baord. Just so you know.

If you want an 8800GTS, you'll have to upgrade your PSU.

It might be a problem then. Its a worthwhile investment on a decent PSU, as a good one will last you a long time and power everything on the market.

Whats your budget?

For that amount you wont be able to get a 8800GTS and a PSU, let alone a CPU upgrade. You're better off waiting until the official Crysis requirements come out and then you can see what upgrades need to be had. And waiting will only mean prices go down aswel!

You can get a 8800 gts for £190 or less...

Yeah you can, but he will need a new PSU aswel. If its purely for Crysis you might find the CPU hinders what the Graphics card brings to the table.

Yeah so I'm pretty sure that you can get a decent PSU for £60...

Yeah you're right, but I'd still wait for the official requirements to come out for Crysis.

just to make sure i have understood correctly.

are you saying you can fit a nvidia card to an ati x-fire board as long as it is not SLI?

You can definetly put one Nvidia card into that board, but not two.
