I just bought that today, and it refuses to work. I switch out my old router and plug everything into the same slots, and it refuses to work. It says there's packets being recieved, and the computer detects the router, but it won't connect to the internet. It's odd.

Any ideas?

Massive Firewall?

Have you gone into the router settings and messed with the configuration?

lol sorry had to say it

but seriously, read thru the manual, maybe something got messed up.  you probably have to clone your MAC address in the WAN.  Make sure the connections are all correct.  If you did that, then we might need some more info on what you have done.

good luck.

Nope. The CD wouldn't even let me install the stuff, so I had to do it manually.

The whole thing's FUBAR.

If it IS a firewall problem, how can I fix it?

If it's a firewall problem, I'm pretty sure you need to dig into the router config.

So there isn't any firmware on it, or at least it isn't updated? That would definitely be your problem.

I'm pretty sure there is Firmware on there. It said something about it when I tried installing the CD.

How far did you get on the installation? Out of date firmware could still be your problem, just like drivers for your video card.

I got everything through. Like I said, it detected my router, it just wouldn't get a connection. That's the step I got stuck at - "checking internet connection". I switched out all the wires from the old router and put them in the correct places in the new one and it still would not detect the connection.

It's always you who has the computer problems, Poseidon.  Before it was something simple like pushing in your graphics card.   I don't know what it is this time, but chances are it's simple.

Try repairing the connection. (right click on little double-comp symbol in your taskbar and click repair)

Or find your DIRECT router page (like a modem page) and disconnect, re-enter your password and username and reconnect.

What type of Broadband do you have? Did you config the WAN portion of your DLink router? If you need to enter the primary email address and password does the router connect automatcially...try manual connect. Is your computer NIC setup to automatically obtain an IP address?

I know right? Hmm...I'll try that.

Type? Like, brand wise? I use Optimum Online. As for the e-mail/password, I used admin and tried to override it. And it worked, I just still could not get a connection.

I hate wireless internet.

If packets are only being sent once way, then check the DHCP settings.

Make sure you follow the directions EXACTLY as they're written.  I had the same problem with my wireless router, it turns out that you just have to plug stuff in the right order, use the CD and restart the PC.  Good to go.

Worked like a charm.

Now if only my brother's computer didn't suck so bad so I could install the stuff I need to.

From my brother's computer which has the direct connection (which I'll soon have...just need a phone jack in my room)

You're telling us that that wasn't the very first thing you did? Man, the logic of some people is severely lacking.

It was, actually. And it still failed to work.

Today it just magically worked.

Hehe it could of been that you reset it while it was plugged into the old router or another computer? Cable modems will remember the MAC address of the last device connected, you must reset it to allow new devices to be plugged in.
