Honestly, you can only quit when you're actually ready.  If you're not ready, no amount of gum/chew/drugs/patches/seeds will help.  If you actually want to quit, then you only have to make it past the first week hump.  It gets easier after that.

Get into running/biking/anything cardio.  You'll soon have no desire to smoke.

Just don't go cold turkey, that'll never work. You have to slowly drop the habit.

How much do you regularly smoke?

I'd say limit yourself to one pack a week at first. Then after a week or two, keep the one pack limit, but throw half the cigarettes away. Then a few weeks later throw 3/4 of them away.

By throwing a bunch away, you'll realize what a waste of money it is. And it'll also be easier to follow the rule of a pack a week, instead of a certain number a week because then you'll be tempted to take "just one more".
My mom went cold turkey when she knew she was pregnant. She has not smoked ever since and that was 21 years ago.

what a mate of mine dide was over a month or so he just kept smoking as usual, but he started by cutting a little bit off the end of the cigarette (use the rings on the paper to measure if you like) and eveer couple days he chopped more off. after a month he pulled out a ciggie, cut it and was basically smoking label and said to me " this is stupud" and dropped it on the floor and threw the rest of the pack in the trash.

Also, i hear good things about the patches, you put them over your eyes and you can't find your smokes
but srsly, nicotine gum/patches are NOT the way to go. To expensive and you're still nicotine dependant

This mans speaks the truth!  I was a smoker for 10 years, and tried to give up many times.  Patches, gum etc were of no use to me whatsoever - it's kinda like thinking a stick of gum will keep a junkie's mind off heroin!  The only way is to just stop overnight.  It is true that if you can manage one week you'll have cracked it.  I haven't had a smoke in 4 years now.

Try quitting with either another smoker or a group of non smokers, the peer pressure will get to you.....

truth, my fiance took it and she quit (relatively) easily, at least easier than the patch.  She hasn't smoked since November, and has no plans to start again. Her entire family smokes, so she is around it everyday, and yet she doesn't do it. You are supposed to take it and smoke for like a week, then on the 8th day you quit, she quit on the 9th day because she got really upset on the 8th and couldnt do it, but you know....women....

QFT its shite

btw, something possibly helpful, dont think of it as being this hard for ages so just give up, apparently after 3 days it gets a lot easier, push yourself not to smoke as hard as you can for the first 3 day, then itll be slightly easier........emphasis on the word 'apparently'.

non useful time. try smoking the cigarette up your ass...it helps, honest

Yo ted

My dad used to be a pretty heavy smoker. He started when he was like 15 (it was legal in Argentina and nobody really knew that it was shit for you), and kept doing it till around 42. He tried quitting once but he went on them again in secret and my mom found out. So then he tried quitting again, and he did it for good.

I don't know how he went about it, but I can ask him for some tips.

I tried to quit once. turned out i didn't want too. Enjoyed it too much to stop. My brother smoked for longer than i did though and he just said he didn't wanna smoke anymore and he hasn't since.

Even peer-pressure  won't get to him, even when he's drunk. It's like. Wtf?

The rule of habits.  21 days to make it and 21 days to break it.  It goes with the good and bad.  You can create good habit as well in the same manor such as working out.  First you must really want to quit on your own. It has to be your decision and not someone else's. Then you have to figure if you are addicted to the nicotine or the act of smoking more.  I can go days without thinking about smoking but when I get bored or stressed is when I smoke.  If you HAVE to quit the meds are the most effective way or you can try the gum or patches.  I have known many people who have quit in various ways and the pills are the most effective.  Almost everyone I know who has gone cold turkey and doesn't change their environment (going to bars, hanging out with smoker friends) ends up smoking again.

Favorite saying.  "Quiting smoking is the easiest thing I have ever done. I must have done it a thousand times!"  GOOD LUCK
